Late December Trout'N

Traded the bow for the ultra-light this weekend and did some trout'n. Caught a lot of fish but was really hoping for some big'uns. I ended up catching this long skinny brown and my buddy hooked this nice fat rainbow. I think I had more fun taking pictures with the new camera than actually fishing.

Spotted the doe playing statue out in some CRP last week. Thought it was a neat picture.

looks like either Bear Creek or Yellow River. Am I right? I think I've fished the same stretch if its one of those two.

Yellow River back in the Ion Exchange state land.

The Yellow and Bear Creek are my two favorites and hold some very nice trout. I heard they shocked some of the yellow this year and had a 33" brown come up. He'd be the state record for sure. I'm after him but no luck so far.

I used to catch some nice winter trout in NE back in the 80's and early 90's. I like the Bears and especially Waterloo Creek along with a couple others. Nice to have the streams all to yourself.

I've done the best a few miles up river from Ion. There is a highway between Waukon and Luana that crosses over the Yellow River, I have caught several browns over 20 inches. I throw them back, so if someone hasn't caught them and taken them home for supper, they should still be in there. That was a couple years ago though.

That would be just past Volney and Hickory Creek dumps in right up from the bridge. Some excellent water there also. I've had real good luck in that area also.
More and more learn about the Yellow River being a great stream each year and there's beginning to be less and less quality fish in there. I only ate three trout this year and they were 16-17 inchers. No need to keep the big ones it's too much fun going out and catching them again later.

You guys might as well post a map too!

Ghost,
If the traveling shed ever makes it this far bring it on up.
Plenty of trout streams up here. If not the river has some great walleye fishing.

Knowing where they are and catching them is two different stories. I still have my secret lure that constantly catches the big'uns...

Just watched the weather tonight and it looks like we will be making ice very soon.

They changed the forecast to high in the mid 20's and lows in the single digits starting this weekend and going through next week.

A couple months late but winter appears to be on its way, better enjoy this weather while we have it.
