Any ever hunt the late season for bow? This year it is from Dec. 22 - Jan. 10. I was just wondering if it is worth trying to hunt. I would think that the deer would be really spooked by that time, but I don't know and that is why I am asking.
My absolute favorite time to hunt is the last week of the season. The more cold/snow the better. It seems to be the best for getting deer grouped up on food and your are more assured that you will have the woods to yourself. A very rewarding hunt even if your just left with doe tags. If you do have a buck tag it can be one of the best chances to catch a slob getting lazy.
Can be the BEST time as deer are predictable on food. If it gets cold enough and the wind is right you can harvest a great deer. I missed a 150" on January 9th last year (hit a fence wire ) but I saw the power of food and cold lst year. Highs in the 50's and it can be slow....in the teens..watch out! The hard part is getting out undetected but if you have food you gotta be out there!

Bucks get hungry after ramming around for 2 months without eating much, combine that with cold weather and...look out! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif
Got a ton of daytime mature buck pics last winter in the late season... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
If you have access to the right property and the weather cooperates it can be a blast. Deer can be extremely intolerant to intrusion this time of year and very little pressure can send them packing. If you hunt high pressure areas the late season can be dead as a stone.
