This is the permanent and protected funding for Iowa's conservation needs we've been looking for. I hope everyone takes the time to contact their legislator about SJR 2002.

Is this another version of 735? Should we support both or is one better
confused.gif

735 has been replaced HF 2322.They went back and amended some %'s and cleaned up some language.

2322 or 2002? JMO 2002
This brings in water quality which is a very hot topic. It is tied to the economy,if more taxes are collected in '07 than '06 this would kick in.Plus it's a constitutional amend.Might be harder to pass, but it's also harder for the legislators to come back and take away.JMO

Yes 2002 is basically permanent, once enacted, where 735 (2322) has a 10 year sunset.

SJR 2002 provides full funding of REAP, 735 (2322) does not.

SJR 2002 provides money to tackle the water quality issues the state has. some of that money, if not most, will end up as new wildlife habitat in the form of filter strips and wetlands that are used as natural filters. 735 (2322)has a much smaller water quality component, and would create virtually no new wildlife habitat.

735 (2322) also doesn't provide any money at all for increased conservation law enforcement presence, or for maintenence or improvements of current public hunting areas, SJR 2002 does.

Dang! I'm glad you guys are keeping up on all this stuff! it appears to me then that SJR 2002 is the one to support. Is 2002 a new bill or one that is being renewed or amended?

It's new as of last thursday.

SJR 2002 is the dedicated funding bill that ICA and so many of the outdoors organizations in the state have been working toward for several years.
