Liming question

All of my plots that I killed last year or failed plots, I've been shaking AG lime bags on but i'm debating if I should use pell lime on my established plots. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Thought 1 what is your ph?
B a good idea to get a sample.
If lime is needed pellet lime works right away the first year.

5.7 is low
Put pellet line on to get through this year and line according to what is recommended and that will get you where you need to b.

How big is the field? Would be nice to get an Ag lime truck in there.

If not, pelletized is next best option.

A total of a little over an acre is all. I've already spread 70 bags of Ag lime by hand on the killed plots for the upcoming planting season to disc in and have no problem doing another 40. The pell lime is more uniform going on with a spreader applied to an existing plot that I won't disc in. I just didn't know if the uniformity of the pell lime would make it a be a better choice. I would prefer AG lime if all things are equal.

For pell lime - Old rule of thumb used to be 100# / acre to raise pH by .1 point.

500# should get you around 6.2 or so, depending on soil type.

Borrow someone's EZ Flow spreader and put down Ag lime. For small plots it's the way to go. Or buy one and resell it when done, that's what I did after spreading about 14 tons. Neighbor borrowed mine to spread some of his plots. He was sad to see mine sell, so he ended up buying his own. For $400-$600 you'd have a spreader.

Maybe I'll do half pell and half Ag...get a quicker bump from the pell lime and a longer term fix from the AG lime. Back to back years would probably get me where I need to be. A soil test to confirm. I'll definitely be keeping my eye open for an EZ flow. Thanks for the input!
