Linemans Belt??

One of my friends called yesterday and said he needed help setting up some stands and asked for my help. It worked out great because I need to move a few and put up a few myself.

Once we got out to the timber he put on his linemans belt which I have never used or seen anyone use. I used his to put up my stands and I tell you what. That makes putting up stands simple and safe.

My question is....

Which brand should I buy?

He was using a "Seat of the Pants" brand of belt. I have a Hunters Safety System Vest and I am wondering if they make one that works with that vest.

Any help is appreciated.

I use a HSS as well. I looked at it initially and didn't think to use it in conjunction with a linemans belt. I looked at it a few min after I read your post and it doesn't have hip hooks....so there's really nowhere to connect your belt.

I started using a lineman's belt,of sorts, a few years ago for hanging stands. I used the safety webbing that came with one of the stands I bought. That particular set had locking carabiners on the hips. I found a length-adjustable piece of webbing and attatched a carabiner to each end. When hanging stands, I use that setup, when I hunt I use the HSS. I can take a few pics of the rig and post them if you'd like.

Be safe.

I've been using the tree hopper for quite a few years. There's no way you will be dissappointed with it. Great product, plenty of line to get around BIG trees.

Not sure about older HSS but mine has anchors on both sides for a lineman's belt. Check your and see. HSS makes a lineman's belt for the harness

If you already have the HSS, might as well use something that works with it.

I agree that using a lineman's belt makes hanging stands simple and safe. I didn't realize until last summer how simple it could be. Made me think, "wow, I've been hanging stands for years now, acting like a monkey and hanging on with one leg and a couple of fingers, feeling like I could fall in a heartbeat." A lineman's belt changed all of that. Very cool.

treehopper advertises on the site, and donates to the IBA as well. i have had a couple talks with dean at the classic, and he is a stand-up guy. all of his products are top-notch

Just looked at the new HSS's they are quite a bit different than the older ones. Nice to see you can use a belt with them now.

My wife insisted I buy one at the classic. Best $40 I spent on anything hunting this year.

I just cut the shoulder straps off one of the harness's that came with one of my stands and fastened some rings onto the hip loops to make hooking into them easier. Works great and saved me $50.

Do ya'll use the treehopper as a safety belt once in the tree or do you use a harness?

Once I am in the tree I wear a HSS vest.

These things rock, I HIGHLY recommend them.

I'm definitely getting a Treehopper soon. This acrobatic act of hanging treestands is stupid and I'm somewhat embarrassed to say I've always done it that way. Especially when I like mine up around the 25 ft level! Glad I stumbled into this thread, looks like a good product.

Using a waist belt is a great way to break your back if you fall or end up hanging upside down. A full body harness is the safest way to go for sitting in the stand.

Quite honestly I am surprised how few bowhunters use this system. I have been using the Treehopper hand drill and bit system for several years now... approx. 10 yrs. I was using it before the current owner bought the business.

It is a very efficient and nice way to set up multiple stands. The bolts are much easier to carry than treesteps. With my core area stands I will generally pull the bottom seven bolts and leave the rest until after season. I just carry a pouch of 7 bolts with me and insert them and climb into my stand. After pulling the bolts out of the tree the holes will regrow shut before the next season. Leaves a small scar on the tree which can be easily retapped again if you choose to use the same treestand site again. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

I bought the drill bit a few years back and don't really care for it. It works well, but my electric drill will only work for about 6 holes or so before the battery seems to get weak. I have just found it easier to use the hand drill.

I use the lineman's belt from HSS and it works great for hanging hang-on stands, but like Muddy said a full body harness is the way to go when you're in the tree. Imagine falling with only a belt on to stop you. OUCH!
