Loess hills public ground????

Has anybody hunted any of the public ground in Monona co during the 1st shotgun season. There seems to be some pretty good tracts down there and I was just wondering how the hunting was, how much pressure, lots of drives going through? Seems like that terrain would be pretty hard for groups to push so I was wondering if a guy could do well taking a stand there. Thanks for any info.

Have hunted the Loess Hills since I was 5 yrs old. Im 23 now. I hunted some public near Castana for 10 yrs now hunt some private in the Loess Hills. More people tend to just walk around the hills not really making drives. I would say just find a good tree to sit by and ppl should run deer by u. Hunting pressure is sporadic too down there and where I hunt. Some years you wont see a sole and other years youll see a see of orange down there.

The pressure in the hills is not nearly as great as one would think. And yes drives are very possible. Our group has been hunting there since 1980. The drives have been most effective with about a dozen or more people. Any less than that and the deer seem to simply go around you. This year for instance, 8 people and we covered nearly the entire chunk of the Little Sioux Unit, we came away with a big fat 0 and only saw a few does. And we only saw 5 other hunters and 3 of those were hunting tree rats. The first year we have every been skunked opening day!
