I know there is another thread called lone wolf but im wanting some of your guys opinions. I've never hung a stand before and i think im leaning towards a stand a some climbing sticks. My friends have climbers but i dont wanna get stuck only being able to pick certain trees. 1st which lone wolf hang on stand do yu guys recommend and is it or they pretty easy to figure out. Leveling, all that kind of stuff, any experience, stories, or advice is appreciated.

I had the original Alpha and then sold it for the Assault. They're both really easy to use but like anything you gotta practice with them a few times before you try it in the dark. Right now I pack in/out my stand and four sticks each and every hunt. Great stand, will last you a lifetime.

I bought a Amacker Deer Thief climber back in the 80's. You had to find the perfect sized branchless tree. If the diameter changed too much, you had to readjust the seat (I dropped the wing nut off the bolt once, but was still able to make it down). It really worked the abs trying to get that thing up the tree. Then, the seat is canvas and the frame cuts into a persons rear. Anybody wanna buy a cheap climber?

I'm sure there have been vast improvements in climbers, especially if a person spends a little more money.

When thinking about buying a new stand, I really liked the idea of a hang on. The talk around here got me looking at the Lone Wolf Alpha. I also liked the idea of strap on steps. I've tried screw in steps before but I'm worried they might harm the tree. I've also had a cheap screw in step break on me (again, you get what you pay for). So I decided to go with the Lone Wolf Alpha and three sections of steps. I bought another set of three steps last year, figuring I would carry four and have a couple for back up.

Overall, my experiences with the Lone Wolf has been great. There has only been one scare and that was purely my fault. I hadn't used the stand but a couple of times. I got to a tree I had never set up in. It was still dark and I got in too much of a hurry. I placed the strap with the hook around the tree, hung the Alpha on it, then fastened the second lower strap. I stepped onto the platform and the stand came off the hooks, pitching forward. The lower strap stopped the stand and I didn't come close to falling out of the tree, but I sure got a good morning heart rush out of it.

I always make sure that the hook is deeply seated in the stand now.

I have 1 alpha and am going to get a 2nd. I do not pack my stand and sticks in and out like some guys do (great idea, I just carry too much crap), instead. The main reason I bought a lone wolf stand was to put it in areas where I am not sure if I am picking the right tree or not (big woods etc). It is the easiest stand to take down and put back up quickly and quietly if I need to move a stand 75 yards. + its light to carry to remote areas. Very easy to hang yourself and easy to level off on crooked trees.
Expensive, but you are getting what you pay for with these stands.

I just got my alpha w/4 sticks. The summit viper will probably collect a lot of dust this fall. But that viper was incredibly comfy, just too limited as to where I could use it.

I remember reading some posts last fall where some of you guys posted pics and gave tips on how to pack in the LW with the sticks attached. Can anybody point me to those posts? Sorry, I'm feeling too lazy to go surf through all those posts from last fall.

Great stand, I have the Alpha with 4 sticks, gets me plenty high as I can get over 20' with that setup. I killed the biggest buck of my life out of that stand last year and it was due to the fact that I could never get a stand in that area due to the limited trees and the shapes of them. I was able to stagger the sticks in a manner in the only available tree in that area and it paid off big. as far as packing in, it is nice and light to pack, can easily be done with a back pack and all the accessories too.

I've been using the summit copperhead. It's a good solid, quiet stand. I like the looks of that Alpha though and I think I might pick one up before this fall.
No matter what stand I buy, it seems I'm always "cold proofing" it though. Put carpet on the platform and wrap cloth tape around any metal that may come in contact with other metal. You just never know what's gonna make a noise when its below zero.

Have to admit that is the best part about the LW, the cast aluminum platform has no noise and the attachments for the stands were built right so that the seat doesn't squeak, etc.

I'm with Muddy...pack in the sticks and my alpha and I can go about anywhere!! Best investment I made last year!! Quiet, easy to use, sturdy, and it has the self leveling system too...heck, I'd work at a sport's store just to sell those!!

You will never find a more quality made, portable hang-on stand. I have used mine religiously for the last year and I have no complaints. It's great for packing into public hunting areas where not all the trees are straight.
