I am currently in the market for a new slug gun. I currently have an 870 that I've had for 25 years and have decided to upgrade to a semi-auto. I've been doing a lot of looking but wanted to possibly get some other opinions from others. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
 
My buddy has a Vinci by Benelli I believe? Wow that gun can shoot. Witnessed him shoot a buck at 165 yds, held high and smoked him right where he was holding and dropped him. Very impressed.
 
Just bought a Winchester SX3 slug gun and put an Eotech 512 on it and absolutely love it. I had mixed feeling on the Eotech but after shooting it I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Did you buy the eotech new?? Lots of guys at Osky PD have completely dropped eotech brand due to its inability to hold zero on a 5.56 -- I hope it holds zero on a slug gun for ya man!
 
I hope I can jump onto this tread with the same question, similar question. I've had a mossberg with iron sights since my first gun. I want something as accurate as possible at a great distance. for distance and accuracy alone, is the best choice a good muzzleloader?
 
I have browning silver 20 gauge with a red field reflex sight kind of a cheap eotech but I wouldn't trade that gun for anything I shot a 20 gauge 870 with open sights for 15 yrs and the transition to the silver was easy and amazing
 
If you are wanting better accuracy, you either want to go with a bolt action gun or pin your barrel on your 870. With a fixed slug barrel you will not get the slight movement when fired like you do with a removable barrel on a 870. I have a 870 with a Hastings slug barrel that is pinned and also a Marlin Slug Master bolt action. Both are tack drivers with the right slug.
 
I have an 1187 12 gauge, my only regret is not getting the 20 guage. A buddy of mine has a semi-auto 20 guage escort with the rifled barrel. He bought it cheap on sale from scheels and that thing can shoot. Very impressed.

If you are going to be sitting my pick would be either a muzzleloader, savage 220 or the H&R 20 guage slug gun. If you are going to be doing drives I would opt for at least a pump gun.
 
Agree on the 20 gauge, used to shoot a 12 gauge Benelli SBE 2 and switched to a 20 gauge 11-87 with slug barrel. The benelli jumped so damn bad after pulling the trigger I couldnt get back on target very well it seemed like.
 
Benelli M2s are great as slug guns. I have the 20 gauge but know several guys with the 12 and we all really like them. I've got a nikon slug hunter scope and shoot Federal Trophy Coppers. It's very accurate.

I haven't had an issue and know several people using them on their slug guns as well. Mine was brand new. I'm surprised to hear poor results considering how incredibly popular they seem to be.
 
I tried for a while to get a semi-auto slug gun to shoot well. Best I could get was 3-4" groups at 100y.
I eventually gave up and went back to my muzzle loader and have an 870 with the open sighted slug barrel.

Honestly your best bet is to keep your 870 (best cost effective slug gun there is) or look at a bolt action.
 
Benelli SBE.... rifled barrel slug gun set up- tack driver. Smooth. Accurate as heck. Low kick. I got rid of my 11-87 for it and figured I had my slug gun that will last me a long long time. Downside - expensive. Another downside - I hardly ever shoot deer with guns ;). But it's worth it- killer & I think it's best option BUT I'd only repeat if I thought I was gonna gun hunt a lot cause the defining part of that gun vs others is the price tag.
*i did have trigger worked on. Lightened. Maybe why more accurate too. As accurate as my bros savage no problem. Gold partitions. Smooth and doesn't kick much. I though my my 11-87 and 870 kicked way more. But that's just me.

How do u pin a barrel??? Love to do that if I knew how.

I'm not sure if they fixed the issue. They are incredibly popular, but I know they took a dive when the military had to send all of their eotech optics back because of their inability to hold zero! They then allowed the general public to send their optics in if they also had issues. I'm hoping it's fixed. Very, very nice equipment they make!
 
The Marlin bolt action slug master gets my thumbs up also, very accurate. I have an Remington 870 slug gun also, does alright but not as accurate as the bolt action. I have no experience with semiautomatics for slugs.
