Looking into buying first Tree Stand...help?

My Dad and I are looking into buying a tree stand and I have my eyes on the Big Dog Foxhound II 16' Stand. I was wondering is this a good option? Are there stands that I can get cheaper that are better? Any laws about tree stands in Iowa I need to know about? I was wondering your guys opinions.

I have 3- 15 ft. foxhounds & they work just fine. There just a basic, no frills stand, small platform but they do have armrests. I caught them on sale for $59.99 @ Dunhams in Sioux City a few years ago. Couldnt go wrong for the money. As far as the law goes the only one I know about is you cant screw steps into a tree on state land & stands have to be taken down on state land after the season.

When I started & was very poor - I got ONE cheaper stand like a bigger Gorilla OR the big ones from Menards (or a Big Game XL, etc) for around $70 and I was happy. BUT- I had to have something for crooked trees SO I got 1 Lone Wolf for around $140 but now they are like $180??? Good thing is, more companies have those types of stands (for crooked trees) like Muddy, etc and they are cheaper I think. BUT- if you're looking for a ladder stand, not sure. I have a ton that were left on my farm, if you're ever in Des Moines, I'll hook you up with one for a tiny fraction of what they cost (I don't like ladder stands really well). Good luck!

I agree with Sligh. If you are on a budget go to Menards. Thats where we usually get ours. They have a decent selection of ladder stands or hanging stands for a decent price.

X2....went there this weekend. They say they wont have them out on display till end of August though.

I got the Menards ones after the season, I got these ones called the FORTRESS hang on stands for $38 and they are HUGE!!! They were on a major sale after season and I bought the 18 they had left.
I have not pulled down any ladder stands, may be a while BUT I'll post something on here when I take them down.... Kinda down on the priority list vs getting my plots in, new stands up and blinds up BUT I'll get them down eventually and post something.
