I've been shooting mathews forever, currently shooting SQ2
Looking for input on anyone having had or currently shooting either Outback Legacy or the new Switchback. I have narrowed my selection to this.........

From what I have been seing on e-bay a guy can get into a Legacy for about 400 Vs 600-650 for a Used Switchback It it worth the extra bucks..?

Thanks for input.

Re: Mathews Bows Looking for input on a New purcha

If you are going to get a bow...I would get a new one rather than an ebay used one....soley for the warranty. It is only good for the original owner and it is NOT transferable regardless of what some folks will tell you on ebay. My opinion on the Mathews bows, the LX is seeminly the best one from what I have shot...the switchback took a narrow second.

Re: Mathews Bows Looking for input on a New purcha

While I haven't shot the Switchback, I do own an Outback. I shot an SQ2 before that also. To be totally honest with you, the SQ2, LX, and Outback, are all very compareable in my opinion. The only thing I dislike about the Outback is that the roll-over to anchor valley is considerably shorter than the SQ2. Letting off just a little bit on the Outback will jerk your drawing arm forward every time. I think the Outback and LX are a little quicker than the SQ2, but not tremendously. If you can shoot your SQ2 well, and it's in good shape, consider holding onto it. At times, that's what I wish I would have done.

American Outdoors has the Switchback for $559.00. Probably even better price on the legacy as well. 6-miles south of MT. Pleasant on 218,and Sam's a super guy!!!

Re: Mathews Bows Looking for input on a New purcha

I bought the switchback and love it. I previously was shooting the legacy and wanted to upgrade. I have not shot the outback but between the Legacy and the Lx I would choose the switchback. I was impressed on how quiet the switchback was straight out of the box. Good luck on your purchase. Really when it comes down to it all three that you mentioned are great bows.

Re: Mathews Bows Looking for input on a New purcha

I own the Outback. It's a a lot closer in size to what you have now if that matters. It will have less hand shock than the SQ2 but is a good bit heavier in the hand. I'm NOT a big fan of the string suppressors or the Zebra strings. If you dump the string suppresssors add an STS and switch to a Winners Choice string it will have zero hand shock and a string that will last and a much quieter bow. Now you have an extra $140.00 in your bow, is it worth it?

The Switchback is a great shooting bow. Very smooth and very minimal handshock. Still have the same string problem with the new Barracuda as with the standard Zebra though. You'll still have $100.00 more in it when you buy a new set of strings and cables. And trust me, you will buy a new set if you do much shooting at all.

The LX would be at the bottom of the 3 you mentioned. In my opinion there would be no advantage in switching from your SQ2 to the LX.

If I were in your shoes and wanting a new bow I'd do one of two things. I'd upgrade my strings and cables on my SQ2 to WC's and get an STS system and whatever else I wanted to make my SQ2 feel and look new again, and come out money ahead or I'd look at the new ROSS CR334 that comes standard with WC strings and cables and Limbsavers, leeches, cable slide and ultras. No I haven't shot one yet, but I'm waiting patiently for them to arrive. If they are as good as their reviews claim, then I'm a buyer.

A final comment to add about the string suppressors and Zebras. What WILL happen is after a about 300 shots and yop have everything sighted in to perfection, your beloved Zebra will slowly start creeping. Your peep will begin to rotate and you'll start to shoot low. Then suddenly you'll notice that your top suppressor is nearly chewed in half. This will be due to the fast that your ATA is now somewhere in the neighborhood of 3/8 to 1/2" longer than specs call for. You'll twist your cable and then your string and about another 500 shots later you'll repeat the process all over again only this time your top suppressor is gone.

This is standard operating procedure on the Outback. Just recently I have heard of a few guys having the same trouble with their Switchback's as well. My guess is that the shorter the ATA is, the more exaggerated the problem becomes.

You did ask for input.

Re: Mathews Bows Looking for input on a New purcha

I had always shot PSE and decided to upgrade to Mathews this year. Bought a Switchback and LOVE IT!! Took my first archery turkey this spring. I have shot the heck out of it and haven't had any trouble with string stretch or chewed up suppressors. I plan on changing my string on my bow every couple years "just as I always have" anyway. Winners Choice is the way to go from everyone I've talked to. Good luck with whatever choice you make, a new bow, no matter what brand will boost your confidence.

Fitzt, If your asking about the number for ROSS ARCHERY it's (913)-451-7677. When I called I spoke to Doug Hutchison. He heads up the design team for the company. He's a super guy and was kind enough to answer all my questions.
