Re: Mathews Bows Looking for input on a New purcha
I own the Outback. It's a a lot closer in size to what you have now if that matters. It will have less hand shock than the SQ2 but is a good bit heavier in the hand. I'm NOT a big fan of the string suppressors or the Zebra strings. If you dump the string suppresssors add an STS and switch to a Winners Choice string it will have zero hand shock and a string that will last and a much quieter bow. Now you have an extra $140.00 in your bow, is it worth it?
The Switchback is a great shooting bow. Very smooth and very minimal handshock. Still have the same string problem with the new Barracuda as with the standard Zebra though. You'll still have $100.00 more in it when you buy a new set of strings and cables. And trust me, you will buy a new set if you do much shooting at all.
The LX would be at the bottom of the 3 you mentioned. In my opinion there would be no advantage in switching from your SQ2 to the LX.
If I were in your shoes and wanting a new bow I'd do one of two things. I'd upgrade my strings and cables on my SQ2 to WC's and get an STS system and whatever else I wanted to make my SQ2 feel and look new again, and come out money ahead or I'd look at the new
ROSS CR334 that comes standard with WC strings and cables and Limbsavers, leeches, cable slide and ultras. No I haven't shot one yet, but I'm waiting patiently for them to arrive. If they are as good as their reviews claim, then I'm a buyer.
A final comment to add about the string suppressors and Zebras. What WILL happen is after a about 300 shots and yop have everything sighted in to perfection, your beloved Zebra will slowly start creeping. Your peep will begin to rotate and you'll start to shoot low. Then suddenly you'll notice that your top suppressor is nearly chewed in half. This will be due to the fast that your ATA is now somewhere in the neighborhood of 3/8 to 1/2" longer than specs call for. You'll twist your cable and then your string and about another 500 shots later you'll repeat the process all over again only this time your top suppressor is gone.
This is standard operating procedure on the Outback. Just recently I have heard of a few guys having the same trouble with their Switchback's as well. My guess is that the shorter the ATA is, the more exaggerated the problem becomes.
You did ask for input.
