Mathews Outback Owners...

250 arrows since last post. No increase in ATA and no decrease in BH. Bow's still quite.

Hey DLO, I have to ask, after dumping that much money into a bow set up, wouldn't you at least try to get the bow company to fix your problem. I have been thinking of buying a Mathews but I'm afraid if something went wrong with it I would have to sell my first born to cover the cost of repair. Plus the divorce costs after my wife finds out! For a bow that costs that much I wouldn't think you shouldn't have to work on it.

I would have had Mathews fix it if I wasn't in the middle of bow season. I needed a quick fix and a fix that would work. Mathews would have replaced the string with another Zebra. I would have had to endure another case of the new string stretching and getting the bow out of spec, AGAIN!..... didn't want to deal with it.

The WC string sets are pricey for sure, but worth the price if you can avoid the crap I had to deal with. It's not just a Mathews problem by the way. A great friend of mine owns a new Hoyt Razor Tec. He's having the same problem I had with string stretch except it is a little less noticable because of the lack of suppressors on the Hoyt. Hoyt doesn't use Zebra strings, but I'm sure it's Fast Flight of some sort.

I just have a problem with any bow manufacturer telling me to put 8 twists on both ends of a bow string to fix a stretch. That's A LOT of slack to take up!.... not to mention doing what they told me to do didn't get me anywhere close to fixing what was wrong.

The new bows have specs that are so critical, anything that could go wrong usually affects the bows performance dramatically. I just decided to fix the problem once and for all....besides I now have a better string set on my bow than all the other factory strings out there.

Good point. I have been draging my feet but I HAVE to buy a new bow next spring since I ran over mine in November! I was so stoked about killing my buck "a 150 class 10 pt. and my best buck ever" that I forgot I leaned my 10 year old PSE against the front tire. Needles to say, when I backed up it pretty much destroyed it. My wife of course thinks it was on purpose so I could get a new one. I just hate the thought of buying another "CHEAP" bow. I know you get what you pay for and I shot my buddie's Outback and fell in love with it. Your story makes me wonder if I should have the string and cables replaced before the problems begin, "If I actually get one" Thanks for the heads-up, this site is great!

don't feel bad about running your bow over, I did it with a tractor once

I'd get the new strings at the same time you get the bow if you can. You'll save yourself hassles later. I know the extra $ is hard to swallow, but you'll thank yourself in the long run. Good luck man!

Yipeeeeee, I picked up a new Mathews Switchback last night. A late Christmas present. It is so sweet! I don't have it set up yet, but will as time and money allow. Just can't beleive I finally have a good bow. My dealer assured me that the string problem had been corrected since the Outback, hope he's right. Luckily there was a guy at the shop who just had his new Switchback set up and he had the same draw length as me. He let me shoot a dozen or so arrows through his set up and I fell in love. Once I get sights and a rest I'll let you guys know how the string holds up. Until then I'll hang it on the wall like a fine piece of art!
