Memory card problems

I got my first trail cam a few months ago. I set it out and the first time I checked it there were no photos taken. I don't know if I screwed up the setting or if I chose a horrible spot, but anyway, no pictures. I reset everything and set it out again. I checked it this weekend, and there were 36 pictures on it. I pulled the card out and took it home and put it in the printer(it's a photo printer or something). The printer couldn't read it. I had used the printer before to read the trail cam test pics of myself walking in front of the camera, so I know the printer works. I then brought the camera back home and hooked it up to the computer with a USB cable. The computer wouldn't read the card. I am not really sure what the problem is. The printer and the computer both read the other card just fine. The only things that I can think of wrong with the memory card is that it somehow got exposed to the elements, or, I pulled the memory card out of the camera before the camera was off. Have any of these things ever happened to you guys? Do you have any recommendations for getting my pictures off the memory card?

I'm no expert but my first guess would be a bad memory card. I'd try that card in another device, maybe a camera, and try a differant card in the trail cam. That should narrow it down for you. BTW if you end up needing a new card, check out TigerDirect.com, I picked up 2- 1GB SD cards for $28, they have great prices on stuff like that.

in your camera settings...assuming it is a home brew, format the card and see what that does for you. Or get a new card

Ditto

spend some time at home and that should eliminate a lot of guess work

I wouldn't format the card just yet. If you do, you will for sure lose all of the pictures. I would either go buy a memory stick reader, or take it to walmart and see if there reader reads it. If not, then I would format the card, or buy a new one.

I've bought a "collection" of memory sticks from everybody and his brother from Ebay and various online "sources...some for as little as 2-3 bucks.

I've tried them all expecting this exact same thing to happen...but so far I've escaped unscathed...whew!

I bought a reader from walmart that reads various memory media which at least takes the guess work out of "is it the camera?"

I'd sure try some other methods of reading the stick before you give up on it.

I had the same problem with an SD card earlier this year. My trail cam would use up all its internal memory then the card would refuse to store additional pics. It would flash "card full".I put it in my digital camcorder and it worked fine.

Then the card I'd removed from my camcorder worked great in the trail cam.

Don't know why but I'm glad they work now.

I'm going to have a buddy of mine take a look at it. He does some work with computers and cameras. I know it's a problem with the card and not the camera. Hopefully he can get to the bottom of it, and atleast get the pictures off of the card. I could care less if the card is trashed as long as I get the pictures.

[/ QUOTE ]I have a program on my computer called PC Inspector Smart Recovery 4.5. Sponsored by Convar. I can't remember where, but i downloaded it several years ago. I've used it at least twice with great results retrieving the picture from a memory stick. It will also repair the memory stick and reformat it. I think i tried to repair a SD card with this program that didn't work, but it works great on memory sticks.
