Michigan Hunters Killed 6 Percent Fewer Deer in 2010
The state says hunters in Michigan killed 6 percent fewer whitetail deer in 2010 than they did in the previous season.
The state Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday that results of the agency's mail survey found an estimated 418,000 deer were harvested last year, down from about 444,000 in 2009.
Hunters killed 10 percent fewer antlerless deer and 1 percent fewer antlered bucks in 2010 than in the previous season.
The state says there was a 4 percent decrease in the number of hunters buying deer hunting licenses last year from 2009. An estimated 656,500 people went out to hunt in 2010. The survey was sent to more than 50,000 deer-license buyers.
