So does anyone think that Iowa may follow this trend soon?

Michigan Hunters Killed 6 Percent Fewer Deer in 2010

The state says hunters in Michigan killed 6 percent fewer whitetail deer in 2010 than they did in the previous season.

The state Department of Natural Resources announced Tuesday that results of the agency's mail survey found an estimated 418,000 deer were harvested last year, down from about 444,000 in 2009.

Hunters killed 10 percent fewer antlerless deer and 1 percent fewer antlered bucks in 2010 than in the previous season.

The state says there was a 4 percent decrease in the number of hunters buying deer hunting licenses last year from 2009. An estimated 656,500 people went out to hunt in 2010. The survey was sent to more than 50,000 deer-license buyers.

MICHIGAN IS A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sympathies to all my home-boys stuck in suck-ville central.

I came from that fine State. It always had a problem with Rifle Season Opening during the Rut. Then the Kill,Kill,,the does idea got going and sightings of any deer got to be rare. Hunting from my friends there has waned. I have a friend in MI. that breathes and sleeps deer hunting. Putting many hrs in,,MANY, Hrs. As far as I know, he took not one deer last bow season, and he is not that particular about age or rack. This same Scenario could follow in Iowa.

Skip, you crack me up, thanks for caring about us.

Loeranger, it will happen. I've seen it first hand in MI.

It happens first to the people that hunt property the has marginal or poor habitat. I tried to explain this to the landowner of the farm I hunt. He doesn't like deer but he still wants to see a few and he has to kill a buck every year to prove he's a man to his buddies. When deer are over crowded they move into less desirable habitat. Once the population is brought down the deer get pulled back into the best habitat. The farm I hunt doesn't have a lot of cover so the few deer that are left move across the road to the best habitat. Two farmers with in a mile of are killing 30-40 deer a year. We've stopped shooting does. I've gone from seeing 10-15 deer a sit to 0-5.

At least you guys have all those NRLO's creating sanctuaries so your population won't drop too low. :D

Look at the stats, Iowa has dropped from 211,000 deer in 2005 to just 127,500 in 2010. That is a drop of 40 plus percent in 5 years which averages 8 percent per year so why would a 6 percent drop in Michagan concern us, we are already dropping much more than that and with far fewer numbers. Iowa is not following the trend , WE ARE SETTING THE TREND!!!

That is a good point Bowmaker, and stats don't lie. I know your area is not loaded with deer, just as mine is not..
