This buck was shot by Cotton Lake.

No area 244 in Michigan
Hunter Orange required for gun season which starts November 15th
The only big deer in the Cotton Lake(Gladwin) area of Michigan are fenced game ranches.......
I think it might be Mitch Rompolas brother.........

I had my doubts about the info I was given. That is why I explained that in the first post. I was figuring someone would reply with other info. A awesome buck regardless. Thanks for clarifying.

Detroit Lakes is in Minnesota, and area 244 is directly east of DL. Cotton Lake is also in the immediate area. I received the same email a few days ago and the info in that email was that it was from the DL area in MN. Detroit Lakes, Cotton Lake, and area 244 all equal MN deer. Guess I'm hunting the wrong unit. BIG HOG.

so was this a wild whitetail or not? id be very impressed if it was, but if it came from a high-fence situation then i cant say id consider that an accomplishment.
regardless, every time a big buck is killed it is always surrounded by controversy.
fantastic animal nonetheless

Here are the pictures I received of it. The pics came out right after the gun season here in MN. I guess I didn't doubt that it wasn't legit. The angle of the first pic makes it look about 4 times bigger than these pics.

I think it's legit...those big hogs in MN dive right into those cat tail sloughs that are in the back of those pictures. If you can get them up in there, that's your best chance at a big buck up here in the upper 2/3 of the state.

That is a whopper of a buck. It's unfortunate that that buck was originally dubbed a Michigan buck and will likely be dubbed as coming from anothe rplace before the smoke clears. I think the pictures look sweet with that moon in the background but someone is going to say it was shot at night b/c it is dark in the pics. This internet is a real catch 22, it allows us to feed our sickness but when something is posted it's out of the owner's control. It is a shame that every big deer taken is questioned.

Yes, there are some definate hoaxes but way more aren't than are. Great buck whoever you are, thanks Dan for clearing it up.
