Mineral-How Long?

Bought one mineral block a few weeks ago and decided to take it to the timber and set up a camera. Went back a week later and the block was GONE. Nobody had taken it, it had been devoured by the deer. I had tons of pictures including these three..

The last picture I cropped because I thought he had the gnarliest bases I've ever seen.

Now my question for you is do you continue putting out these mineral blocks or is it just a waste of time and money? I can't believe they finished off this block in a week. Just didn't know if I should continue to take some mineral blocks out there every weekend or not.
 
Was it a big cattle mineral block, or one for "deer"?... The cattle feed lot ones should last longer.. A lot of the mineral probably just washed into the soil from rain too, so deer should keep using that site for a while
 
Get a bag of the granular trace mineral salt from the feed store. One bag should last for a long time.With alot of rain it will soak into the ground, which the deer prefer.
 
I put down a 100 pounds of trace mineral 200 pounds of 62% calcium 500 pounds of salt 50 pounds of dried molasses and 130 pounds DI-calcium phosphors. Sit back and watch the bone grow. I put that much in each hole each year.

Dang! That is a ton of mineral. Sounds like a great mix of stuff but how many mineral sites are you running? A 50lb bag of Di-Cal is $23 each here. Thats gotta be close to $150 per hole, right?

If all works as advertised you have got to have some hogs running that farm, can't wait to see pics.
 
I get a good deal on the stuff, but yeah it isn't cheap I have three of them. If you consider the price of fuel, spray, and seed food plots aren't cheap either. The deer hit the licks just as much as the plots, I always put one in the timber line next to a plot and they always swing in the lick before the field.
