Mineral Licks

I'm fairly new to IA and not sure on the regs. Is it illegal to have a mineral lick on your property for deer or is it just illegal to hunt near it?

Hunting a mineral lick is considered baiting and is illegal in Iowa. There is no set distance one needs to be from a mineral lick. It is up to the discretion of the CO as to whether you are gaining an advantage hunting "near" a mineral lick.

I just make sure to put mine out after season ends and then let them run out long before season begins.

I also make sure I don't have them anywhere near a stand because as mentioned...it could depend on what "mood" the CO was in..
