This is a topic that will never be settled, because no biologist knows what to do.You have the idiots in some states that say lets kill all the deer so the healthy one don't get CWD.Look at the facts,What state has been feeding the longest?Texas, what state last I heard didn't have CWD?Texas. What with the western states having CWD and they don't hardly feed at all. Most likely the deer will develope a tolerance to the disease much like some do to EHD.I watched a show the other day that said they still had deer die in Texas from anthrax every so often from the buffalo wallows.

PRION ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE 2018 MAY, 22-25 A REVIEW

http://prionconference.blogspot.com/2018/02/prion-round-table-conference-2018-may.html

kind regards, terry

Seems weird that so many are captive deer that had never been in the wild or at least thats what i am guessing is a breeder deer? Thanks for the info guess another instance that someone was putting out the wrong info that should have known.Still don't agree that killing massive amounts of deer will stop the spread or not feeding.
thank you

Go look at cattle that are patched up & brought from all over the place.... I know guys who have a 5% yearly mortality. Some as high as 10%. My wife’s side was running 5%+ yearly mortality, up to 10%.
A lot of changes but they NOW, ONLY buy whole select groups and never patched cattle groups together and also minimized transportation of cows (bought local, etc). They are below .5% yearly mortality now on a big operation (so they have reduced mortality by 10x due to being strategic, careful & "smarter" about it). Other changes they implemented too but transporting in all sorts of cows from all over and not vetting them to the extreme is their #1 claim.

Transportation in general, creates lots of problems. New herds with new illness strains, whatever- I just kinda understand it as “not good” from talking to cattle guys often.
Over my head but many EHD studies & articles reference the prevalence of EHD when new cattle are shipped in (especially from down south).
Still at the mindset of above, until there’s a cure or immune strain of deer- we ain’t gonna be able to do a darn thing based on any research I can find. IMO- yep, agree, nature gonna deal with this like many other things & a good possibility it has been dealing with this forever - we just found a way to identify it. I’ll take a WILD GUESS.... more we test, more we identify & find it ;). Heck- it’s possible if we kill every deer in the US- maybe we’ll find out we have had it in every county & just never knew it before. Maybe we should kill every deer and test every one so we get the answer?!?
