If anybody wants to head to Minnesota with me this weekend I know it's short notice but I'm heading up, I'll be leaving from Southwest Iowa. Just PM me if you're interested. Shotgun only :)

Tag is $165 (Youth under age 17 $5) season is Nov. 7 - Nov. 22nd, shotgun only area. I'm camping Friday and Saturday night and hunting Sat/Sun. Have to buy tag Friday to hunt Saturday, going from Southwest Iowa to Southeast Minnesota.

That's an awesome invite TH. I would love the opportunity to do an out of state hunt with you, but I have work, wife, and a weekend bow hunt here with my beautiful, yet opinionated teenage daughter, that exclude me from such a fine trip. My wife lets me go, god bless her, if I give her an equal trip in return, but the equal to that hunt you are doing, is a 7 day vacation to Hawaii for her. Funny how that works. Good luck, stay safe, and have fun.

By units he meant area 349, 348, 346? I'll be in 349 and 346 the next four days... Good luck on your hunt... Depending where u go, get out there early...and I hope it's not Whitewater, or your in for an interesting hunt.... Drive they today and already tons of camps of bow hunters and Friday it will triple in amount of people...

I know what he means. I've lived in MN for 46 years, but most people know which county they are hunting in??

I had a buddy that grew up in St. Charles said it was great, but lots of people. I'm trying my luck in 344.

I admire your ambition TH but why would you leave Iowa private land in November hunt a busy public land in Minnesota?

Arm is right, even if I don't get my deer tomorrow I'll probably just save the tag because Dad found one of the bucks I've passed a couple times dead. No bullet holes, no arrow holes, nothing. Just flat out dead and it looks like coyotes might have chased him down. I'm just going after a big management 6pt (or a surprise) tomorrow. Having 5 big bucks die off of 800 acres in 2 years isn't good. 3 of them were to my bow, one to wild dogs, and another just died somehow. I hope that there's still larger deer out there.

Figure I'd entertain myself somewhere else rather than here at home.

Well, I came out to where I was going to hunt and figured I could park there and sleep...nope "No Camping" went to a landowners house and asked about Whitewater if is was by reservation only and he told me it was and probably was full. We got to talking, turns out the state record was shot on his farm last year! This guy was super nice about everything and after we talked a bit even let me camp on his ground next to the public area right here. Gosh, I'm one lucky son of a buck! Almost hit a 130-140" 8pt half a mile away with my Jeep too. Time to sleep and walk a mile tomorrow to my spot and see a couple dozen guys :)

Talk about a bunch of people! That's an understatement!

Landowner was probably starstruck and confused as to why Justin Bieber was camping and gonna hunt public land. Good luck tomorrow!

TH learned that people get to public spots early hahaha

I'm sitting here and at 1am guys started driving by. Then by 3:30 there were maybe 9-10 cars/trucks already here. Went two miles into the woods, 5:05am was the first shot...6:06am was legal light. Quit counting the shots after around 11:00am were I was at 700.

Walked out sat down, then a guy sets in his stand 50 yards from me. Around 9:00am I moved, I walked down the hill another mile and ran into this guy setup in a tree stand with a rifle and no camo. Kept walking, finally found a good spot with scrapes, rubs, and beds everywhere! Got settled in, heard a shot 50 yards from me where a guy was setup in his tree stand. Decided to move even further in, walked another half mile and found an old tree stand along the river and sat in it. Deer sign and tracks everywhere, not a single deer. Let's hope tomorrow is different! There's still cars parked here, and shots are still being fired at 11pm! :)
