Miscanthus dormancy

I have miscathus growing around my pond and have green grass growing within the miscantus. Is miscanthus still dormant now and can I spray glyphosate around it to kill grasses or will it kill the miscathus? When does miscanthus start growing and come out of dormancy?

Soil temps. Mid 50’s. If still dormant - which is exactly what u describing…. Go for it!!!

Examine the bases. New shoots are pretty easy to see. If you don't see any, spray away.

Mine that was planted last year is has about 4 inches of new growth on it as of last Saturday. if the grass that is competing is annual grass like foxtail try Quinclorac.

I think it might be perennial grass like Bermuda but not sure

It's surely perennial. The annual grasses hasn't shown their ugly faces yet.

Have you looked at the miscanthus plants? Are they up?

Yeah I just looked today and they are up

darn. Limited to hand pulling or fall spraying after dormancy.

Last summer we planted GM from two different sources. Then we went about 8 weeks with nearly no rain. Nothing grew. Not a one. I thought the ryzomes were toast.

Then this summer, we are seeing a bunch start to pop through. I’m guessing less than 10% of what we planted. None are over 4’ currently.

Some pics below. Any recommendations for weed control at this stage?

hand weed a 6" radius around each plant clump after a good soaking rain if it comes soon and if you have the time.
