Misfire!

Just have a question for you muzzloader guys. My cousin and I were both hunting from Sunday to today and we both experienced a misfire. We both shoot blackhorn 209 he has a CVA and I have an older k right disc elite with Breech conversion kit. Neither of us have had a problem in the past two years with powder or gun

More info. I was shooting 100 grains (by volume) of blackhorn hornady SST 250 grain bullet and a CCI 209 primer. Have shot this combo many times without a flaw. Gun stayed in a gun case in truck over night and never a long time in warm truck. Also have a small package of silica in the case. Could warm and then cold weather have sweated barrel?

I have never had a misfire or hangfire or witnessed one for that matter out of any tc guns with blackhorn and a magnum primer. I have seen it with knight and cva that didnt have a breech conversion but i can understand that.
Ive played around with blackhorn quite a bit in terms of hot/cold, gun sweating, storing in a vehicle and i have never seen it effect ignition or accuracy, im definatly not saying that it cant happen, ive just never seen it happen.
If ive been out in the snow or rain or noticed that my barrel really started to sweat after a hunt i will unload and completely dry the gun before the next hunt. My only guess is that the breech plug flash hole may have been blocked or had a few bad primers that didnt throw a full charge.
Did the guns fire on the second shot?

Does your CVA have the blackhorn breech plug in it? If not, it is setup for pellets. I have seen misfires of all kinds with knights and TCs over the years. I have a CVA but only hunted with it a couple times. Most the cases I have seen is from the guns getting wet then put in gun cases wet. Or from going from cold to hot over and over.

Also it doesn't hurt to take a small drill bit that will just fit in your breech plug on the primer side and twist it by hand. You will be amazed at how much BH209 is in the flash hole you can't get out by traditional cleaning.

Does the CVA have the BH breech? I used to have hang fires without that breech and now it works like a charm every time. The only other time I've seen one misfire was when it was below 0 out and a buddy stored his muzzy next to a wood burner and the powder turned to play dough.

Im not sure if my cousins CVA has a conversion breech or not. He actually had his next load not fire at all . he cleaned his breech and then it worked. As for mine, yes I always fire a primer before loading and I always use a drill bit to clean out the breech and also use a torch head cleaning file to go all the way through the breech. I never noticed any sweating on the barrel. I'm hoping it was a bad primer. I'm going to pick up some magnum primers next.

Did you use a drill bit in the flash hole? I think there 1/8". I've had it happen if you don't keep that hole drilled out.

The TC's seem to work the best without needing to replace the breech plug when using blackhorn, my guess is the flash hole is a little bigger than others. I would also use the CCI MAG primer or a Federal primer because they are the hottest ones they make. Yes others will work but in some cases you might have an issue with them in certain gums. I've used it since it came out and tossed the 777 pellets I use to use and with a CCI mag primer in my Encore I've never had a miss fire. My ml stays in the truck or in the garage loaded until season is over and if I shoot it it doesn't get cleaned until season is over.
