I think we're going to find out this year if MDC is or isn't concerned about resident input. They allowed public comment recently regarding deer hunting regs, and if all the resident crying I heard makes a difference, it should show up in the regs this year.Ok, I'll take the bait...
Politics: Missouri's Park Bill is up for its 10 Year Renewal this year. If too many people are mad about culling, MDC is scared straight this renewal will not pass. MDC gets a big portion of funding from this bill. By hitting "pause" on the deer slaughter, they hope to regain enough good will to pass the bill, and resume shooting deer the following year. Don't kid yourself, MDC could care less about public opinion, or deer hunters.
Although I'm not a MO resident, I proposed a draw system, higher NR tag prices but reduced priced NRLO tags, quotas by county or region, the ability for NR to buy doe only tags without purchase of buck tag, go to 1 buck, don't pause archery during rifle season. Probably suggested a few more things I can't remember at the moment.
