anybody see the des moines register friday? in missouri, they have MMA fighting for 8 year olds. they fight 2 minute matches, have headgear, gloves, groin protection, and shin guards. proponents compare it to pee wee wrestling. lxshooter saw a story on it on CNBC. can MMA soon be a highschool sanctioned sport?

up here in Fort Dodge there is a club that is allowing 6 year olds in now.

However our local city council is trying to put new rules and regulations into effect about having the fights in our town.

(all in all they want to get rid of it here because fights spill out into other bars around the city... they say)

I guess I don't know what ya mean about the fights spilling over. Do you Nanny? I never heard of anyone wanting to wrestle after UFC fights. Anybody else heard of this??

That is funny!!!

Ty told me about that!

I think we might actually see some kind of MMA replace wrestling some day.... What would you rather see, a kid getting pinned, or a kid tapping out /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Depends on if it was my kid or your kid.

Now, THAT"S FUNNY!!! I agree with shredder, I would have jumped at the opportunity to whip a$$ in highschool, but am too out-of-shape for it now.

Not a chance of it becoming a high school sport. Hell, they won't even let kids play tag on the play ground let alone beat the hell out of each other. I'm betting wrestling will be replaced but not by a contact sport.

I have to agree with GotRack. They won't let kids play dodgeball or tag, MMA has no chance in school.

Personally, I don't think it has any place in a school either.

Thats hilarious! I was thinking the same thing. Guess they start early in Fort Dodge!

Really? God I hope not. It'd be tough to get rid of it in this state. I'm not crazy about kids training in MMA. I'd let my young kids train in BJJ, but I'm not sure that kids that young need to be striking and kicking. I don't know what a good age would be, but I think that may be a little young. JMO
