Local businesses say crime predates defendants employment

Allen W. Blevins, of Knoxville, Tenn., entered a guilty plea in federal court Monday, Feb. 4 for illegally killing and transporting white-tailed deer, a misdemeanor violation of the Lacey Act, a federal wildlife law. Blevins was a previous employee of Hadley Creek Outfitters in Pike County. A press release issued by the Midwest Region External Affairs Office stated that Blevins was listed as the president of Whitetail Investment Properties, another Pike County firm. Blevins is also a founding partner of Whitetail Properties TV in Pittsfield.
Two of the local businesses stated that they had no association with Blevins at the time of the incident.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Byron Cudmore accepted Blevins' plea. As part of the plea agreement, Blevins received a $7500 fine that will be paid to the U.S. Clerk's office for the benefit of the Fish and Wildlife Service. Blevins must also forfeit the three antlered mounts. Blevins was not sentenced to imprisonment or probation.
Blevins admitted to killing a 10-point white tail deer with a bow in October 2004 on property owned/leased by Hadley Creek Outfitters in Pike County. After killing the deer, Blevins did not tag the deer with a valid 2004 temporary deer harvest tag as was required by Illinois law. Blevins then transported the untagged buck from Illinois to Tennessee where he falsely registered the deer as being killed in Putnam County, Tenn. Blevins would go on to kill two more antlered deer, an 8-point and 10-point, in November 2004. All three deer were displayed in the 2004 Hadley Creek Outfitters photo gallery for promotional purposes. The mounts were also displayed in public for other promotional reasons on Blevins' behalf.
Stacy Ward with Hadley Creek Outfitters stated that the incident happened in 2004 prior to Blevins' involvement with Hadley Creek Outfitters. Ward also commented, "Hadley Creek Outfitters had no knowledge or involvement with Mr. Blevins' activities."
Dan Perez with Whitetail Properties TV stated that Whitetail Properties TV has no connection to Whitetail Investment Properties. He said, "This incident occurred in 2004, prior to Blevins' involvement with Whitetail Properties TV. We have not been able to fully discuss this incident with Mr. Blevins and do not have knowledge of what actually took place at this time."
Whitetail Investment Properties, located in Barry, could not be contacted for comment, as their listed phone number had been disconnected.
Blevins' guilty plea is the result of an investigation into illegal hunting conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent Tim Santel said, "The willingness of the U.S. Attorney's Office to prosecute cases such as this one helps us protect our nation's natural resources. If all self-professed hunters acted with blatant disregard for wildlife laws as Blevins did, there would be no trophy animals left to hunt."

Just passing along what I believe, must be truthful public knowledge.

Hadley Creek and Stacey Ward are a bunch of poaching SOBs, they continue to get caught year in and year out doing this kind of crap and for some reason they are still in business, guess the fines and punishment aren't steep enough. I sure wish IL would go to a system like IA where a 150" whitetail cost you 15,000, that might make them think about it at least. In addition they need to hold the business responsible for all its employees and hunters, I think this would significantly reduce the tresspassing as you wouldn't get the oh I am hunting with such and such and don't know the property lines. Anyhow, can't wait to see this operation get shut down.

Thanks Ghost, I've been waiting for someone to post this. Some people will do and say anything to make or take a buck!!

Well guys get ready for it to come to Iowa. Latest word I have is the guy who owns Hadley Creek is moving to Iowa to set up shop.

Bad Bad news for IA, he has trompled some serious ground in IL and the only thing we have going for us here is the lack of tags for outfitters. But in this case it won't matter they will just drive across the state line and slap and IL or MO tag on it.

Sounds like the same problems my friend has with USO Outfitter on his place in New Mexico.

These jerks are what gives hunting a bad name.I dont think it will matter how much you fine them they will keep on breaking the law.

Mr. Ward must feel pretty strongly about this tag increase happening. Well if it does, he'll have plenty of competition, because this State will be full of leaches just like him and that lawyer looking to make a quick buck.
Business will be good at the coffee shop though. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Antlers and bragging rights have caused this type of behavior long before any of us was born and will still be going on long after we are dead. Yep....Money, Greed, Big Whitetails

Saskguy, the information you posted is accurate & is the owner of HCO. He's locking up 10's of thousands of acres already in Illinois & I think some in Missouri as well but I had heard they were looking into Iowa.

I wonder how Mark and Terry Drury feel about this? I have been watching commercial after commercial on Drury's shows and others about how they (Mark and Terry) TRUST Whitetail Properties when looking for their next whitetail property. I have also been seeing commercials with Drury's pro staff claiming that you have to at least once in your life come and hunt with Hadley Creek Outfitters. If the info posted is correct then (Blevins) the president of Whitetail Investment Properties and a founding partner of Whitetail Properties TV, and (Ward) the owner of Hadley Creek Outfitters are both convicted poachers.

Both are poachers, there is no doubt and anyone in the state of IL that deer hunts can tell you that. We have a small outfitter that leases alot of land in our neck of the woods and have become pretty good friends with a few of the guides and stop in and talk with them and their clients quite a bit. I have talked with 4 different guys who have hunted with Hadley Creek, 2 of which killed and 2 who didn't, all 4 said that it was a very very poor experience. Even the 2 who killed said they would never return and said they have given numerous people honest references about the place. There #1 concern was the overhunting, they said it looked as if cattle had been run on the farms with all the paths (which were actually human trail to and from stands), if this is Mark and Terry's idea of a place you have to go then I have lost a bit of respect for them. Pretty sad that this guy has made a name for himself and a lot of money and he is as crooked as they come.

Ya, but Jarin...they are only hunting 56 guys per week?!

Lord, please do not let Iowa become another Illinois.....

Sad...you guys wanting hunting land...buy it now!!!

Reading post like these makes me realize how truely lucky we really are here in Iowa.

Hopefully it will stay that way.

If not, maybe i'll meet some of you guys in a hunting club, where we will be paying 6,000-10,000 a year to be a part of.

Let's learn from the mistakes of states like Illinois, and make damn sure that it never happens here!

Rest assured guys and gals the powers that be (FB, insurance, etc.) are trying their damndest to make it happen. I spoke to Elkhunter over the phone last week about some of the pending legislation and he is sincerely concerned. We need to all, as frustrated as all of us may be with the continued efforts that it takes, be diligent in contacting legislators as well as educating the non-hunting public about the concerns we have regarding the future of IA outdoor hunting opportunities. I hate writing those damn e-mails as much as anyone but I also know the future risks are real.

I hope those legitimately involved are punished as harshly as the law allows.

Ghost - I would love to but I was too dumb to buy 10 years ago and I need to help educate by kids now (college tuition - OUCH!!!)
