Pics and story will be up tommorrow. Had to take pics with a buddies cam, he will email me them and then I will post. Gersdorf, we're on the board!!

Sorry for taking so long, all hell broke loose this week at work.

Started out Saturday evening, while shroom hunting with the landowner, we saw a few toms in his hay fields struttin around. So I went home, got my gear, and a tag, and headed back to his place. It was an awesome hunt, longbeards fighting, chasing jakes off, one of the longbeards bred a hen about 70 yards out from me, but nothing would even pay attention to a call, to much excitement right in front of them.

I watched all the birds fly up to roost, then headed out for sure that I would have one down first thing in the morning. Well, Sunday morning came and I was sitting about 50 yards from their tree when it got day light. And wouldn't you know it, they flew out of the roost and into the next field (which is about 1/8 of a mile away and I don't have permission to hunt). So all I got to do was watch them through the bino's strut around.

Sunday evening I was back in the area where I watch the birds roost the night before. I forgot my bino's in the truck and there was a turkey out in the field about 200 yards away. I was pretty sure that it was a hen, but I decided to do a stalk and get a little closer. While I was walking around a block of timber, I found 2 big ole yellow morels. I got those bagged up and was back on the trail. I had to cross a little ditch, and right before I headed down into it, I spotted a shed laying on the other side. Come to find out, its a match to one I found earlier this year, but the dang squirrles have chewed the hell out of it. Still it is my first matched set.

Anyway, back to the turkey hunting, I got close enough to tell that it was a hen feeding out in the field, so I sat down and watched her for awhile. Over on the neighbors property I could hear the gobblers just hammerin away. I though, only a matter of time before they get here.

Well an hour later nothin. The hen I was watching left the field, and no more gobbles and nothing in sight. Then I could see the neighbor driving around his field checking his cows, so no telling where the birds ran off to.

I though, the heck with it, gona go home and spend the rest of the evening with my wife. I stood up to leave and turned around to give the field one last look, when low and behold there was a turkey coming down the hill straight to me. So I sat back down and watched. I could tell it was a tom 300 yards away. He came out in the field and started feeding around. I called a few times and man did he put on a show up to 14 yards away where the ole load of # 6's did their job.

He is one heck of a bird, had beard rot pretty bad, and doesn't have that great of a beard, kinda thin.

27.24lbs.
1 11/16 spur, 1 3/4 spur
9 1/2 inch beard

I have no clue on how to score a turkey.

Take the weight and add the beard length x 2 and add both spurs together x 10 and add all together and thats you score...
