What is the winter mortality rate on deer up there? I would think they are genetically adapted to it???

Last winter was mild and didn't have any winter kill, but the two winters before were long and hard that took their toll on fawns and some mature bucks. That is why I try to give them as much winter food as possible with standing beans and brassicas. The only problem is that once the snow gets to deep they head for the cedar swamps that give them thermal coverage but little food.
 
Looks like you have some up and comers. Is it just me or is that shed buck on the last picture?

I see what you seeing but I think it is just the snow making it look like that. I am pretty sure that the deer is one of this years fawn.

I thought that one was mid 2zies.. That set of pictures was a good summary of most of the action from my stand this year. Thanks for bringing back the bad memories.. :)
