I vote for a strong year class for the number of big bucks. It is like the walleye spawn if it is good you will have great fishing in a few years. With deer we had a peak in populations and this is a carry over of the buck fawns from that time frame. I also agree that trail cams are keeping some mid range bucks from getting killed because people know what they have on any one property.
I think it's a combination of everything listed already, not just one area. The fact that a large majority of folks actually doing the killing now have some sort of communication device ( most generally with photo capabilities ) at their fingertips definitly adds to the overall increase. Instead of a glossy 4X5 photo passed around when friends come over, the images most generally are passed to a spiderweb of friends within hours. Secondly, land management has to play a large role in it as well, and when we put in the time, effort, and money to produce and protect different bucks it makes us hunt at a higher level than we previously had.
Thirdly, trail cams and shed hunting produce a wish list of deer that we dream about most nights and usually give us a reason to pass on younger bucks. Why date an overweight red head when you know you've got a chance at hooking up with a 20 year old blonde bombshell? No offense to anyone dating an overweight red head......merely a comparison.:way:
