As in a previous post, the Thermacell works well.
I also just saw a short segment on a fishing/hunting show about dragonflies. They will eat 300 mosquitoes a day as well as deer flies. Maybe catch a few hundred hungry dragonflies and let them loose around your stands.
The segment also showed a guy doing research on the sound of dragonfly's wing beats serving as a deterrent to mosquitoes. He has recorded the sounds of flying dragonflies and replays them through a stereo with the hypothesis the mosquitoes “hear” or maybe “feel” the dragonfly sounds and leave the area.
I don't put much stock in it, to be deterred, or for there to be a cause and effect relationship, there has to be a learned response to the stimulus. I don't think with the mosquitoes’ limited ability to think and therefore reason, much like a democrat, that a response based on thinking or reason can be learned.
OK OK, the guy is real, and if you are offended by “democrat” simply reread it and when you come to “democrat” substitute “green party” or “socialist workers party” or any of the dozens of fringe political parties in our political system. If you really have to, I suppose you could substitute “republican”.
