Subject: Deer control

Gentleman: The deer population control will come before the Legislature this year and we have been talking about it on several hunting websites. I posted the below list IN ALL SERIOUSNESS. It will take EXTREME measures to accomplish a major decrease and the DNR issuing more licenses is not going to work. The licenses to we hunters are too expensive and many of us have no areas to hunt but public land. The deer on this public land is pressured and the deer leave to open and urban areas thus are completely protected. I ask you to view this list with a serious mind. Right now the license scheme of the DNR is not and will not work. One insurance company told me they could tolerate a deer population equal to late 1960's. That is based on insurance claims back in the late 60's. Please consider this list:

Farm bureu wants farmers to determine how many deprevation permits they can get based on acres. Things I want:
1. Legalize all types of baiting and where
2. ATV's on public land during all deer seasons.
3. Shotgun seasons start Saturday closest to Nov. 15 and got thru December 15.
4. Atv's on public land during all deer seasons.
5. Unfilled licenses can be used for whatever sex license is for untill license is filled or all seasons end.
6. ATV's on pubic land during all deer seasons.
7. Crossbows legal during archery season
8. ATV's on public land during all deer seasons.
9. No hours.
10. ATV's on public land during all deer seasons.
11. Landowners receiving deprevation permits must allow public hunting(just as Mn. does).
12, Antlerless only limits are removed completely statewide. If there are no deer people will not hunt there. Daaaaa!
13. Antlerless licenses for residents flat $5.00.

Now many won't like these changes but this is what it will take to reduce the herd to what the public will tolerate. Urban areas need more and different regulations such as poisons and USDA baiting and shooting as CR and some other eastern Iowa cities. Nothing will change unless these changes are considered. DEER HUNTING IS NO LONG A SPORT. IT IS A PROGRAM TO ERADICATE THE DEER TO A LEVEL THE PUBLIC WILL ACCEPT. Deal with that.

Pretty good summation CRITR.

So does this (hmm...be polite I remind myself) fella think that allowing ATV's at all times on public ground is going to make the wildlife want to stay within those boundaries. I can hardly contain my laughter on that one.

What would be the point of no hunting hours? "fella" must be a poacher.

I liked #5 and #13. #5 is worded somewhat akwardly but it is something I'd like to see.

ATVs (DRVs) on public ground is a bad idea for many reasons, but I would enjoy being able to go for a ride on differnt ground every once in awhile. But we all know what unlimited ATV access would do to all the public ground.

ATV's on public ground would effectively destroy the entire property. There's no way it would pass. Grow a pair and drag the deer the half mile out of the timber!

I'd agree with #13. #5 is kinda on the edge, I could deal with it being your land owners tag. Since it's your land and you're only allowed one any sex, you should be able to harvest it any season you'd like.

Looks like a zero impact e-mail to me. Might as well have thrown "Make Howitzers legal" in there. You really have to choose your words and talking points wisely if you expect them to make a difference and this cat didn't get it done.

Who is this clueless individual and can we get an email address for him?

He must own an ATV dealership somewhere.

I agree with bonker on this but nothing else.

Nothing like being able to express yourself in a clear and concise manner. The scary part is that people like that have the right to vote.

How much you want to bet that he is from a southern state, such as Arkansas, Louisiana, somewhere down there. Reason I say that is, in those southern states, atv's are allowed on public ground, baiting is leagal, shotgun and rifle season go for a month, your tags are used anytime, as long as there is a season going on. You can use a crossbow anytime, you don't have to have a permit for it.

Just an observation from me.
