Moultre M-80 (Quirks)

SCOFFIN

Miles Coffin
Ok, all you M-80 owners out there, I just wanted to list out some quirks I've noticed with my cams and wanted to see if you were experiencing the same.

First off, I've only used the Trail Cam and Video settings.

Pictures - I've noticed on the High Quality setting, the pictures have some distortion to them like the quality is too high. All the leaves and trees seem to cause a distored effect to the picture. I'm going to play around with a lower setting and see if this improves.

Video - Same issue with High quality pictures, High quality seems to be a bit much for this cam. Is there a different memory card that could be used to help with this? Also, I have my video set to record for 30 seconds and it will record that long during the day, but only get 15 second video's at night. Haven't found this in the instruction manual yet, but it's kinda discouraging if that is by design.

Otherwise, I'm happy.. Quick trigger, good distance on the motion detection, and battery life is AWESOME..

The 10 sec. night video is on page 4 of the instructions under number 4 video mode.

Ive read the card you use with these make a big difference.

VIDEO MODE
Camera records a video when an animal is detected by the motion sensor.
During daylight hours the camera will record a video 5, 15 or 30 seconds in
length. During night the camera will record a video with a maximum length
of 10 seconds. The video length is configurable in SETTINGS.

Here are some pics from my M-80 with the picture quality set as high as it wil go "enhanced" is what the setting is called. I am very happy with the quality on this setting both day and night. Just turned the camera over to video mode so don't have any videos yet, but set it to high resolution videos as well. Yes the night time video length will always be 10 seconds, you can't change that, only the day time length. This is an awesome camera for only $115.

Maybe we can all email Moultre and tell them to change the software to let us pick the night time recording duration as well. Let me choose when I burn my batteries or not..

I'm gonna have to revisit your pictures above. I didn't really look at anything but that deer. :)

Just bought the new Moultrie M-100 mini cam, cant wait to see how the pictures turn out been sitting for a week on a funnel area bring on the big boys!!

The IR looks bright. Have you had any problems with washout?

Nope, no washout issues yet. Maybe I just got lucky with my initial set up. It is definitely bright..

I had an M-80 up for 3 weeks. I went to check it last weekend and the batteries, which were brand new, were down to 59% according to the LCD screen. Thats seems pretty fast to wear down to me. Other than that I like it.
