Mowers

Alright, I am looking for some input on some mowers. I just sold my John Deere GT245. I mow (when I had grass) about 1.5 hours. I am wanting to try a zero turn, but do not want to rule out other models. Make is un-important, I am intrigued by the Bad Boy series mowers. I don't want to break the bank but I also realize you get what you pay for. Any input greatly appreciated.

Rudd,
We have a Scag and love it but also have a friend that has a Bad Boy with the CAT diesel and can't get him off of it. He got rid of his X. What cut are you looking for?

54"-60", finish mower. THe BB Video still makes me chuckle. I have been thinking alot about the diesels.....it'd be easier on my pocket book at the pump. Thanks Limb.

I guarantee you if you get a good zero turn you will be mowing between 45 minutes to an hour. They absolutely run circles around non zero turns. I mowed grass for 2 summers in college and I fell in love with john deere Z 760 I believe. It had a 60 inch deck. The other people that mowed with me had 72 inch decks and I could mow dang near twice as much as they could in the same amount of time if there was alot of obstacles like trees and park benches etc. Out in the flats it still holds it own though.

Thanks Guys, I am 90% sure it will be a zero turn. Timber, you need some spraying done on them fancy food plots???

Our 72 inch zero turn has a tendancy to scalp on uneven ground. The salesman told us that when we said we wanted the 72 inch deck, but we: aren't grooming a golf course and were more interested in spending less time mowing. What used to take 4 hours with a POS Craftsman now is an hour.

Scalping is the problem I have with my 3 pt mower on my tractor

I've been thinking about a zero turn (especially since my "trimmer" will be graduating in a couple years..

)
but I'm thinking "wider" is not always better since my lawn isn't exactly a golf course either!

If ya have a big lawn and want to dish out the cash you can get a flex deck mower..... those things are amazing

Actually, yes. My RR corn and beans could use your expertise if your not busy. Stay AWAY from my clover though. And the yard!

A guy I know that does alot of commercial mowing has a couple of JD front mount mowers with 6' decks. They arent zero turn, but with the rear wheel steering they are pretty close. I've helped him a couple times and those things are sweet, unfortunately a used one will run $5K-10K. He can mow at over 10mph though, and thats hummin right along.
My 10 year old Yard Machine sucks. 4.8mph according to my GPS.

This is correct however I have found to mow in the places that it has a tendency to scalp and it doesn't scalp as bad... The Scag will mow at 10 mph as well. I turned a 2 hour job into about 20 minutes...

The other thing that is nice is the blade speed. With gator blades on it you can mow over long grass and it chops it up real fine so it doesn't look like a hay field ready to be rowed when you are done...

In the last 5 years our business on zero turn mowers has gone from about 5% of all mower sales to a whopping 30% today. There are all sorts of different models starting with the residential John Deere EZtraks to the commercial Ztraks.
Our most popular model is the 757 Ztrak which has a Kawasaki 25hp Vtwin air cooled engine. It flys!!! All of the commercial Z's will mow up to 11mph. If all you do is mow, the zero turns are the way to go....we always see mow times cut between 30 and 50% off, from that of a conventional tractor. The Deere's deck will differentiate it from most other Zero turns....stamped 7 gauge steel, with huge aluminum spindles, makes these machines unbeatable for fast, fast mowing. If anyone wants more info you can always give me a call at Waterloo Implement. My cell phone is 319-404-1281. Sorry for the commercial guys, but I couldn't stay out of this one. Besides...who would want to mow with something called a SCAB.....oh sorry, Scag.

How about red ones? We sell Snapper mowers. I've got a brand new 61" 2500 Pro zero-turn real cheap.
