Multiflora Rose

I know I'm in the minority but I kind of like it. Provides awesome cover and does have nutritional value for deer, turkey, rabbits, pheasants.

if it had much nutritional value the bucks back in WV would all be Boone and crockett

Not saying it's their favorite but is there is some value. "deer and other wildlife feast on the rose hips produced by the multiflora rose, as they are a dense source of nutrients available at a time when grass and other grazing materials may be scarce due to high temperatures or drought." I found a 10 year old thread on this very forum where some suggested mowing paths through the rose for access and passage from one part of the property to another in lieu of eradication.

Crossbow and roundup will kill it. They say to spray it when it's blooming, but i never had a problem spraying it as long as it's growing.... If you can mow it, it usually won't come back till next year, you may have to mow it again...

I was hoping a few of you might have some advice on how to deal with multiflora rose. We have one section of our farm where the multiflora rose is extremely thick in the timber. We want to eradicate it as quickly and effectively as possible. I've read that there are certain herbicides that can be used for this, but I wanted to get some opinions on people who may have experience doing this. We obviously do not want to cause any harm to our trees by spraying the wrong stuff, etc. Any advice/suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Did you have any luck with this? I have a major mfr thicket on about 4 acres, on the fence of either trying to get rid of it or keeping it as habitat. Little clover plot in the middle of it sounds pretty good to me
