Well in 7 minutes another season will be upon us. I was just thinking. My deer in the past I have always shot my deer just like my bow. shoot for the lungs. Well I was just curious, how many guys shoot your deer through the shoulder? just curious, because our last few deer havent bled well. None lost, just not very good blood. Thanks.

I always aim for the shoulder with a gun. It breaks both shoulder bones and the deer usually just drops. If it takes off it's still the same recovery time as a lung shot, if not quicker. I wouldn't aim for the shoulder on a really long shot though, you'll be taking a chance on poor penatration.

If I am shooting a calm, stationary doe at under 30 yards, I go for the ol' pumpkin. (Head shot.) With a scoped, accurate muzzy I have not missed that shot yet and have probably dropped about 5 or 6 of them like that.

No tracking necessary.

And if I have set it up right, a very short drag too!

I have also had a few facing me or quartering to me and I just go for the front shoulder. They rear up once real big and drop on the spot too. They're dead before the smoke clears so you can see them.

I've shot a couple in the shoulder with my ML, but I'm a neck shot guy. With a steady rest I'll take the neck shot out to 100 yards. If you can get them coming straight at you (that curious almost nervous pose) aim for the top of the throat patch and they'll not move a muscle. I've done this at least a dozen times with excellent results. Good luck.
