What kind of scope do you have on your muzzleloader? My Dad needs one for his and wasn't sure what to get. He missed a 8pt last night and thought it might be a good idea to get one put on. Thanks for all the input.

Nikon Monarch, 3X9X40... Love it!

With your username, couldn't pass up throwing this in ...

BSA 1.5-4.5 X 40 Cateye ... especially if you hunt in the timber and don't need the extra power.

Nikon Monarch is great. My Three muzzleloadrs are topped with 3-9x40 Buckmasters ( about $125 les than Monarch) and they suit me just fine. The Buckmaster is also on my 2 slug guns, .22-250, .223 , 1-.17 HMR and one .22 LR. Think maybe I have confidence in Nikons 3-9x40 Buckmaster.

if you get many shots on moving deer in the trees, i would go with lower power scopes. low power makes it easy to pick up moving/running deer, with both eyes open. if you are mainly stand hunting, a 3x9 would be perfect

I agree with the earlier statement about lower powers. I have my Knight topped with an ancient Redfield 1.75-5 wide-angle view and would cry if anything happened to it. I crank it down when walking to and from my stands/blinds and usually shoot it on 3. I am a fan of lower powered scopes....and have killed tons of deer with them.
