Montana wildlife officials are proposing new restrictions on the use of some types of ammunition by hunters in developed areas.

In the past hunters have been able to use shotguns, muzzleloaders, traditional handguns or archery equipment in so-called weapons restriction areas.

But advances in ammunition technology for muzzleloaders and shotguns, such as sabots, have increased the range of some of these firearms, which officials say could compromise public safety.

The proposal would prohibit the use of sabots and similar ammunition within the restriction areas. Sabots still could be used in the general hunting season in non-restricted areas.

Comments on the proposal are due by Feb. 5.

I would just switch to THOR bullets. Problem solved. Anybody try those. Great reviews on them and I love barnes bullets.

I have wondered how long it would take to mandate primative weapons only durning primative weapons seasons. It just seems logical. I shot my ML buck at 250 yards this year.
