I have a cva optima pistol I need to sight in. I have a red dot on it now but also have iron sights. Seems like a fun thing to try. Anyway my question is has anyone shot these and if you have what loads, bullets etc. Thanks so much Cody

fun little pistol

I bought one the end of last summer...I shoot 60 gr. blackhorn 209 powder with 250 gr. Hornady xtp bullets and black mmp sabots (the same bullet\sabots I use in my savage muzzleloader for convenience).

CVA recommends a different breechplug with the Blackhorn 209 powder and I ordered one from Scheels when I got the gun. I think was only like $10 but supposedly necessary for better powder ignition. I have a burris fastfire III scope with the smaller 3 moa dot. I can shoot fairly well (3-4" groups) out to 60 yds but would go with a scope if you wanted to reach out to 100 yds from my experience. I love red dots but covers to much target at longer ranges. I have talked to others who say they can shoot sub 1" groups from a rest at 100 yds. I was only going to carry late season in a blind and take close shots so I haven't swiched to a pistol scope as of yet.
I have experimented with a few other plastic tip sabots as I have heard they shoot well in the optima pistol, but have yet to find anything that shoots better thru my pistol than the 250 gr. xtp .
The thing I will say is that it is "a blast to shoot". This little hand cannon is a lot of fun. Enjoy!
