Thanks everyone- she's still on cloud 9 and says thank you all of you as well!
A little more to add to the story-
I hadn't went over with her what was going to happen with everything after she got a deer. So after we got home Sunday night I was skinning it out so I could get it quartered up and cool. Her mom was inside when we got home feeding baby and of course Jaelyn wanted to show her trophy off and didn't want me to do anything with the head until Mom got to see it. After Mom got done 'ooh-ing and ahhh-ing' over it, I finished the job and asked Jaelyn to get me a garbage bag to throw the skin & head in. She was quite upset because she thought that because it was her first deer that she would get to put the head on the wall like Dad does with his! I did the best I could to explain to her that we don't do that with does but when she shot a nice buck we'd definitely put it on the wall, to which I got a half-hearted "OK". As I was bagging up the un-usables, I heard a sniff and shined the light on her to see big 'ol tears rolling down her face.
Trying my best to meet in the middle, I told her we'd save some of the hide and get it tanned and that way she could have it forever and would have it to touch, play with, etc, which she couldn't do if we had it mounted. Apparently that sounded great to her because she happily agreed to that and was back to being thrilled about the whole deal.
Last night I had everything de-boned and processed and was just finishing up when she got home from school. She saw all the meat on the table & asked if that was all from her deer and I told her it was. She got a smile on her face almost as big as the one when she shot the deer and said, "I didn't realize that my deer would produce all this meat. After seeing this I don't feel near as bad that I can't put the head on the wall. I can't wait to eat it!" and I swear those were her exact words! She's always liked to eat the meat from my deer, but for her to put it the way she did (she's 7 mind you) I was even more proud of her than I already was!
Just when I thought the experience couldn't get any better, this comes along. I am truly blessed!
