I've been fortunate enough to kill a bunch of birds with the gun, but for one reason or another, i just couldn't make it happen with a bow. that is until this morning....
My brother and I set out this morning thinking that if we could get one close, I would try to whack him with my bow, and if he hung up, Joel would fill his 4th season gun tag. this bird was the only one we heard this morning. It honestly wasn't an incredibly exciting hunt. he gobbled once from the roost, about 200 yards from us. An hour later we heard him gobble once 150 yards from us, at the bottom of the hill. We also heard a hen down by him. I picked a fight with her and it worked. she came up the hill to investigate and hung out in the decoys for 15-20 minutes. The whole time, we were waiting for the gobbler to show his face. Eventually she moved on. 10 minutes later...a gobble less then 50 yards away...just over the hill. A few moments later, a red head appeared. He walked into the decoys and the rest is history.
Like I said, not a super exciting hunt except for the ending, but I am glad I got to enjoy it with my brother. Now the two of us can focus on filling our 4th season gun tags. I see a lot of running-and-gunning in our very near future!
