As you have read early this year on my post I had never shot a buck and had filled a lot of firsts with my doe kill earlier this year. Well this morning things changed and I was presented with the chance I have been waiting for for three years after passing many many bucks.
This morning unfolded like I would have never predicted. I got it done this morning at 7:57. I got in the tree stand a little later than I wanted. I rattled and grunted and didn't see a thing until about 7:30 when I saw 4 does run out of the CRP about 400 yards away. They ran across the field and disappeared into the timber to the Southwest of me. I texted the guy who got me into bowhunting asking if he was having any luck? After exchanging a few texts I look up to see a big rack at 15 yards behind some trees. He was limping a lot and dragging his left leg. He jumped the fence and continued towards me. He continued behind me as the wind was out of the Northwest the buck made his way downwind of me less than 5 yards when I took the shot straight down.. Single lunged him and watched him take off. Caught up to him and he was still alive and couldn't get up so Put another arrow in him to put him away. Came to find out his left shoulder and leg was broken from being hit by a car this morning. Glad to get my first buck. He Scored 156 6/8 gross and netted 152 2/8.
Here is a pic of him before I got another arrow in him.
Goes to show passing deer pays off. When I got home from processing him. I had a 140 class 8 and a 170+ ten in my back yard along with a smaller 8 and two does.
