@ Dars! She took out her front teeth and set them on the bar. Bless her heart!

ya, if you want the trees arount the creeks and ponds get rid of the beaver, the will chew them down even the biggest ones!

I hear what you all are saying. If she is just going to live in a hole in the bank and knock down trees, she probably needs to go. But this pond never gets to the tube and the water level really drops when the rain shuts off late summer. Do you think she will start trying to dam up the spring ditches farther up to keep water around her hole as the level drops? If so shes worth having around to store more water untill the fall rains. Or is she gonna be a lazy beaver and move on if the water gets too low?I have no problem giving up some trees and corn if she is gonna keep water dammed up on the creek. Late summer my farm does not have as much water where I want it, as I would like.

If the water doesn't get up to the tube then there isn't much damming she could do the way it sounds. Our trouble is the water is always running through the tubes and the beaver plug the tubes up with corn... make for a mess. But if your case it sounds like the beaver won't have a reason to 'dam' up the tube.

What I was wondering was if she will try to build up the water level on the creek feeding into the pond? She dug out her lodge in the bank up in one of the creeks feeding in, with steep banks, so that is where the level will drop off first. The water runs all year, but the pond soaks up alot when the rain quits in july/august and goes down. If she would try to dam up the creek arm where her hole is it would keep deeper water all summer. Guess I will just watch and see.

I wouldn't be surprised if she dams it up near her den. They will build dams all over our creek. Seems like one every 100yds and then one bigggg one in there to create a big pond.

If you like the trees around your pond.........get rid of the beaver. I had a guy tell me "don't trap my f-ing beaver, if you do you're done trapping here". The next fall he begged me to trap them all. All of the trees around 2 of his ponds were laying on the ground :way:

Exact scenario I ran into as well. This guys timber around his swamp looked like windstorm blew all the trees down...total cluster F in there. He was begging me to teach him how to use a 330 - he wanted revenge in a bad way....could have prevented it had I been allowed to set when I wanted to! :D

Good post though. Love hunting beaver.

Thats what I was hopeing, she would try to keep the water level up around the den.
What makes you think it's a female? Usually it's the males who strikes off on their own to start a new colony. Much like bucks are forced out from the mothers territory.
