My October 30th Kansas buck

JOSHM2298

whatever it takes

Feel very blessed to be able to wrap my tag around another great buck in Kansas! It all came together in the last 10 minutes of my last day. I was actually going to leave that morning but decided at the last minute to stay and hunt the evening, I'm so glad I did

That evening I was hunting in a typical bed to feed area, the deer were coming from the river bottom were they were bedded to one of the food plots which was about 2 acres. From there they were making their way to the wheat fields to feed for the night. I climbed in the stand at 4:00 pm and at 4:10 I already had deer coming to the food plot. I let 2 does and 2 bucks go by, one of which was a 125" 8 point, I let him walk.
Around 5:00 o'clock more deer started filtering into the plot, ended up having my buck and 5 other bucks in the plot by 5:45. My buck come into the plot about 300 yards away, I growled at him as soon as he walked out but he acted like he wasn't interested at all. Around 6:00 I figured it was my last night and I had nothing to lose so I rattled at him, he looked hard but wouldn't commit. I than growled again and he slowly started working my way. When he was about 100 yards away he hung up on me and wouldn't come in so I hit the can several times and then hit him with some tending grunts. That did the trick, his body language totally changed and he started coming in. When he was 26 yards away I drew back and hit the hair I was aiming for. He only made it 40 yards after the heart shot.
I feel very blessed to be able to chase these wonderful creatures and am so blessed to have been doing it for so long. My drive is still there and I hope I got at least 30 more years of this!

I will be traveling to Iowa here in a few weeks for late muzzleloader, I'm pumped to finally be able to hunt this great state!

That's a good lookin' deer! I always like reading about real world experiences with calling tactics. Thanks for sharing
