Man, I am ready! Shot the breeze with GSLAM95 last night, and as always it turns into a 2 hr phone call. Hunting talk, hunting talk, hunting talk. Love it! Well, I had plans on putting a skin from a tom last year on my pretty boy, but I just thought he looked to bulky, when I had placed it on the deke last spring. Well, John said he was going to go for it on his, so he gave me the incentive to try again. This is the best I could get him, but after seeing some videos with gnarley looking hen stuffers, that look like they have been drug behind a pickup truck with a log chain for 10 miles, and they are still very effective, I decided to go with the real feathers on pretty boy. I think he will do good. Next to him is a new Dave Smith Decoy in the A.C.E. technology. Can't wait to see yours John!

this is my decoy that ive had for a couple years now. Im telling you there is no substitute for the real thing. Your decoy will work great. Its almost unfair, I bowhunt with mine with no blind and they have no clue. I have shot rios, merriams, and easterns over him and they are so fixeated on the decoy that they dont even pay attention to their surroundings. You are in for a treat! Good luck, I cant wait to hear how he works for ya. By the way you have to give him a name for good luck. Mine is named Earl

How did you get a 'live' turkey to sit so still on your tail gate? HA HA. Good night man...that thing looks like it should be in a trophy room! Impressive and I can see how it would work so well. I agree, the real feathers take it up a notch.

Very nice mount and decoy there. :way::way:

Amusing. I'm picking up a leftover turkey skin and wings from my taxi today in hopes of doing something similar to my decoy. How did you treat the skin to keep it pliable and not end up stiff as a board? I was just going to hit it with Borax day after day and hope it makes it a year or two? Flexibility will allow me to roll the wings and skin up and put it inside the deek for traveling.

Muddy, all I did was rub borax 20 mule team into the skin real good, laid it out flat to dry this way for several weeks, and it has been stored in an open plastic tub for a year with the borax still on it. Their skin is so thin, that it remains somewhat flexible, and in your case of wanting to make it removable, the more you roll it up, it will just get more flexible. I mounted mine to the decoy so I don't have to remove and put on each time. The fan removes and that is it.

I want it removeable so it's easier to put in and out of the decoy bag. If it don't work out I'm not concerned. I'm not planning to have much more than the wings and some back feathers to put on the deek like a saddle. Borax, check.

I have a Peepin Tom, basically the same thing just lighter. The homemade gobbler skin is percolating in the garage, hope to be done before I head to Kansas on Friday.

I have one just like that in my house that I look at daily. I dont think Ill be taking him to the woods any time soon. It would be nice to have one.

That's what I was thinking. I want to make my decoy do the jumping jacks out in the field too......
