Not sure it should be a federal crime. Jesus. We let violent criminals out every day but put an illegal outfitter and Lori Laughlin in jail. Lol. Whatever. Maybe we should address violent crime first.

Who said anything about non residents? Guilty is guilty, regardless of who you are. What color you are. What your religion is. I doesn’t matter.

Looks like two undercover "FLORIDA" hunters and two "LOUSIANA" hunters were involved as well. It is always the same guys on this site that get real defensive and down play anything poaching related that is brought up. Guess that speaks for itself.

Not down playing anything. A federal crime. Really. A deer. The feds prosecuted this case. I was a fed btw. I can tell you agencies use shitty discretion on where and how to prosecute a case for a stat. I’ve seen countless cases prosecuted in ways outside the parameters.
Talked to my CO two years ago about my Amish neighbors shooting double digit deer out of season from a blind on their side of the road into my field. The response, I’m sure they’re shooting dioes. Not kidding. Or the 3 years that passed with countless deer, with heads cut off, found in my neighborhood. That one is too difficult, it takes effort and some after hours work. Never solved. Lol
Not saying he shouldn’t be punished but a federal case. It’s laughable. Tag along with me in gun 1 and 2 , we’ll make a bunch of fed cases with my neighbors. Lol

I would assume that most of his business was catering to non-residents. I don't know one Iowa hunter who would spend $3,500 for a weeks hunt. So he was stealing our wildlife and it was going across state lines it sounds kind of federal to me. The guy who a few years back poaching deer out of the IAAP- a federal institution- got 9 years in federal prison. Federal prison is a great thing- no fricken parole. I hope a few of these non-residents scamming the party hunting system during the shotgun season see the same fate.

CO's are way too swamped to act on here say. They are busy enough acting on eye witness reports. If I had and do have neighbors who are poaching I act to catch them. I call every time I see something. Just last year we got a group of Florida hunters busted who were hunting their dad's/grandfathers farm for years without tags. It took a few years to catch them in the act but they ended up paying. Shooting deer during the peak of the rut with slugs showed they weren't the sharpest tacks in the box.
