After a one year layoff due to the Wuhan... got to go to Nebraska last week for the last 3 days of archery and shotgun opener. If we could have used shotguns on Wednesday/Thursday we would have doubled up twice and been on the road home by 8am Thursday... I made a terrible shot on a tom Thursday morning , kicked him up and last we saw he was flying over the trees to the far side of the property. On Saturday morning gun opener we were moving to get in front of a group of birds and kicked him up and finished the job. 19.85 lbs, 8" beard, 5/8" spurs.
Saturday afternoon was nothing but jakes, but we knew there were gobblers in the valley so back we went Sunday morning. Mike was up 1st and his tom came in with two of the jakes from the day before and 5 hens. 21.06 lbs, 1” beard (beard rot?), & 3/4” spurs. After taking some pictures we decided to sit back down and 20 minutes later 2 more toms came into to beat up the jake decoy, only one left . 19.86 lbs, 8.5” beard, 7/8” spurs. Already counting down the days for next year’s hunt!
