guys- i need help quick..i feel like shit, i made a bad shot on a doe tonight. I shot at her, hit a twig, and it hit low. I ended up just sliceing her open and all of her guts are hanging out. How long will she last? everywhere i saw blood it was a dark red, and lots of it. The arrow had no blood on it however, and just white hair at the site of the shot. I need advice asap guys

I would let her lay over night. I have done that before and it is not pretty. They can last a long time like that. Unless you hit something to really make her bleed, which I doubt based on the two times I have done it, she may still be alive in the morning. From what I seen there is a lot of blood initially but it tends to thin out quick. I would take the trail slow and have your bow ready.

If her entrails do get tangled up in brush etc and get pulled out then she most likely will not make it through the night. If she beds down right away with her guts hanging on the side of her with no real hole in them. She will probably be alive in the morning.

Goodluck, I know what you are going through. It sucks.

Obviously wait til tomorrow to track- goes without saying of course. I've seen deer make it a few days or even a few weeks with gut shots. If they bleed bad enough might be dead and there's some gut shots that kill deer within a few hours. SO- the deer could be dead in 2 hours OR 2 weeks. I am sure you'll get some more good advice from folks that have more experience with those shots BUT that's been what I've seen in the past. Keep us posted!

I think Liv pretty much summed it up. Best of luck and let us know if you find her. Poor shots are part of the chase, we never want it to happen, but unfortunatley....it does from time to time. Keep your head up and do whatever it takes to find her.

Here is an update guys..She is dead..she didnt make it 75 yards from my tree stand...she just went over a ridge, so I backed out...Went in an hour and a half later, and there she was, stiff as a board. So I dont think she lasted to long actually. thanks for the advice guys, just nice knowing there are people there to encourage the situation. Thanks again, pics will be soon if I can figure out how to do them.

Nice, good to hear it turned out good. Didn't go far at all. I gut shot a doe last Saturday and tracked it over half a mile, it sucked never finding her. The part that mad me upset was that she was with her yearling when I shot her. After she got hit and ran off the fawn was just running around grunting. It was kind of depressing and wish I would of just passed on her.

i shot one last muzzle loader season here, coldher than heck. hit her low and i found 2 beds about 20 yards apart so i left her overnite....next morn all i found were the legs head and paunch...sick feeling but nature was sure served....darn yotes

I realize it had a happy ending already but for anybody who has this happen, this is key advice:

I would take the trail slow and have your bow ready.

I've been through this before also and I'm surprised she died that quickly. Something may have happened to pierce an artery along the way which is a blessing. When I had it happen, she would travel very small distances and a follow up shot was a must.

I had this happen on a gut shot doe during shotgun season last year. She went a great distance leaving pieces of intestines all along the way. She went close to a mile before I was finally able to slowly sneak back up on her and finish the job.
