need help finding information

I've been trying to find in the Iowa laws whether or not I can possess and hunt with a black powder rifle and cannot find the laws in laymen terms to understand.I am a convicted felon but would like to get into the sport of hunting with a black powder so any info would be appreciated.I can walk into any gun shop and buy one but the forms to be filled out are federal law and under federal law a black powder is not considered a firearm so I need to know what the state says about me owning one .

Good question, my UNDERSTANDING is that you can possess a ML, however, I'd call the sherrif or your attorney to be sure.

I have an uncle that is also a convicted felon and his parole officer told him that it would be unlawful to own a blackpowder gun.
