Liv- I have Browning cold artic gear and it is warm and is not loud. I have tried other products but have gone back to the Browning. Not scent proof but warm and dry. good luck
If you ski you will get double duty out of these - Patagonia Expedition Weight long underwear. I ski in Canada every year and it has gotten down to -40 on two different trips and these under a shell work fine. Now you may think that -40 is not very cold but at that temperature degrees farenheit and degrees celsius are about the same. For bowhunting, I wore them last year under my Predator camo pants in the late season. They breath and wick moisture really well and I think they even have some windblocker type material in them. They were a little pricey for long underwear but well worth it when it is cold. I have several other pairs that are not the expedition weight that I wear here in the states. I have thought about using them as "ninja" blackout gear in a DB ground blind but haven't got around to it. I guess I like the view from the trees much better.
BTW - I bought these in Omaha at Backwoods. It can be hard to find Patagonia clothing but it is quality stuff when you need it.
A lot of very good suggestions made already. I will have to say layering wisely is the best way to dress. I like a tight Under Armour type base layer with contain over that - no bulk at all and some warmth. Scent killing properties here. Then I put on a layer of poly-p x-static (silver thread) long underware. If it is really cold I wear a pair of goose down long underware. If not I usually wear a pair of lined sport type wind breaker pants to cut the wind and help a little with heat. I always wear a dickie with a Cabela's windstopper pullover. Very warm with not much bulk. Then I put on the scent loc which is uninsulated.
Hands and feet usually are the problem. Hands - artic shield glomitts (crinkle) and a muff if needed. Feet got a pair of Rocky something pac boots.
I don't have much invested in gear. Layering is key to me. Pack in what you can and put it on for the sit.
If anybody has better (cheap) layer ideas for me - please let me know.
I have seen deals on the artic shield coat and pants, but am concerned about the crinkle effect. I see now Theisens is carrying an X-scent X-static coat and pants that might be worth looking into. I think something like this will be what I use to replace scent loc type camo. Any thoughts on that?
So what are you guys using for a head cover. I've got a bulky fleece pullover that gets in the way and blocks my vision. So far its the warmest thing I've found however if i wanted to bowhunt with it would be impossible because of the bulkiness.
I use a real skin tight mask from Cabela's in the warmer weather. I want to pick up an Under Armour skin tight facemask for colder weather, but haven't been any place to pick one up. For bow hunting I can't wear a bulky mask else I can't shoot accurately.
