strangest thing here in ohio this year. i was out shed hunting about 5 days ago and yesterday andboth days i found that i still have scrapes that are being hit. nothing recent but atleast within the last weeek and a half to 2 weeks. also my buddy told me that he seen one 3 days ago working a scrape. i promise you these are not turkey scratches these are all scrapes from back when rut was in full swing. deer track all thru them and crap all over them. now it is not unusual to see a buck hit a scrape in late january but never late february. what is causing this.

I have also witnessed this behavior... Having been told that all bucks and does alike will still frequent primary scrapes throughout the year. Primary scrapes meaning, scrapes that have become a fixture, or one that is used year after year. I have been told that this is most likely a way of communicating like it is during the rut. Obviously this behavior is not as intense as it is around breeding time. Not sure how much truth there is to this, but it makes sense to me. Brian

Last week I saw the same thing on our place. I do believe this could be a primary scape that is used from year to year.

went back out shed hunting today and found 2 that appeared to be hit last night. communication sounds like a good answer. if it is a communication factor i wonder what they are trying to say? they are probably talking about us hunters and what fools they can make us look like sometime or atleast make me look like a fool.

LOL, Yeah they are probably saying, "damn I hate being a deer, only breeding once a year". Thats what I'd be saying if I were I deer.

its probably just a fork horn buck showing the big boy who is boss, because the big boy has lost his antlers

the little forky is sitting there going nananananana boo boo im in your scrape hahahaha dont come over here or you will have 25 inches of antler to deal with

okay studying is making my brain crazy!!!!!!!

I've found it is not unusual for deer to show interest in some scrapes year round. I figure it is kind of like a bulletin board where people leave notes-a way of keeping track of who is around and how they are doing.

i think that they are just working them to show their own teratory and keep it for the whole yr... just my opinion
