Need something to hunt?

Well, the season has been over for almost a week. It's hard to fill the gap from the end of deer season and the beginning of turkey season. Each year my buddies and I head to Texas to hunt wild pigs. Since it will be a while until we get to see new harvest photos I thought that I'd show you the photo's from our 2004 Texas Pig Hunt!

This is our first day in camp and were headed to the stand.

Fall Guy was the first to score on this boar on the first evening of the hunt.

On the second evening of the hunt I had these two boars come in behind me. They fought and chased each other and the shorter one on the right was the dominant boar. He was the first to present an oportunity and the shot was true. 5 minutes later the boar on the left cautiously approached. The second boar was shot less than 10 minutes after the first. These boars were big. While we did not have access to a scale, the outfitter estimated them both at over 300 lbs.

Since they were fighting and the one on the left had a bite out of his ear.....I named them Tyson and Holyfield!

Steve also scored on the second night of the hunt with this red sow.

We had a great hunt and 3 out of 4 of us scored. I am bummed out as my budget won't allow me to join the clan this year. I know they are going back as well as a few other Iowawhitetailers. Good luck to all.

If your looking for something to fill the gap....give pig hunting a try!

Bowman, I'm heading to Tx myself on the 10th for hog and javelina, can't wait. Hope to get a nice mature javelina boar for a full mount. Have already killed a big boar in Georgia a couple of years ago. The guy at the ranch were we are going said the place is crawling with hogs this year.Wish us luck guys, will try to get some good pictures for the site.

supertec, we are going about 2 hours south of San Antonio. The ranch is 11,000 acres and is leased(theres that dirty word again) by a guy that we are hunting through. $75 a day and no trophy fees, kill all the hogs we want/can and two javeies. The guy who does the leasing doesn't have a wedsite oe advertise that I know of just a word of mouth type thing. The guy's did great last year, ( I didn't get to go)several hogs were killed one being well over 300#. That's about all I know for now but will fill you guy's in when we get back. Man I hope it's warm!

That looks like fun to me that is for sure, congratulations guys.

It sure beats my all day long Crow / Rabbit / Shed Hunting, which resulted in a pile of crows, 5 rabbits and one 44 inch 4 point shed

Thats what we did last year over spring break. Many people with deer leases will let you in for a small fee. The hogs really mess up their food plots, so it is a free for all on the piggies. Bonus is if you kill a bunch you can bet on a return invite. While we were down there we had people coming up to us offering us places to hunt.

We do the same thing here in MS Bowman. Great way to get from the ending of deer season to the when the turkeys start gobbling. Keeps you from having to go through all the usual withdrawl symptoms, cabin fever, divorce threats from annoyed spouses and all the "you need help" comments from folks that don't understand.

Shot me 4 huge ones today.

Squirrels that is! Took a friend with his new .17 Remington and my Weatherby .22. It was a blast, we shot 8 of those red tree rats and one black one. The best thing about it though was that my friend took them home to clean!! Hahaha!
Maybe that will apease me until turkey season finally gets here.
Then again maybe not?

Liv4rut, crow hunting ranks right up there with pig hunting. It is absolutely a blast when the crows are cooperating and coming into the calls all day.

If you want to shoot wild hogs in Iowa, Columbus Jct. has them running wild! Some guy brought them up from Oklahoma and they got out of his pen, that was almost 10 yrs. ago. They have spread like wildfire! There was an article on it in the Des Moines Register Monday morning.
