Saturday was an awesome hunt. Nolan finally scored his 1st buck. He's gonna come over later to sign up and tell his own story. Here's a teaser though..............
Nolan didn't make it over and I can't wait anymore..............
We headed to a small alfalfa field I've been watching that has been quite active the last few weeks. On our way back we saw a couple does in the field and I took that to be a good sign. However, the next 2 hours were pretty uneventful. With the daylight dwindling, I told Nolan to hang tight while I scooted up a small hill to take a look behind us. The first two deer I saw were bucks. I got Nolans attention to come with the gun. The deer were 250 yards up a hill in plain view. We had to get across a 50 yard wide hay strip before a wide corn strip would give us cover. The deer were on the other side of the corn in a bean field. So we went under the fence and belly crawled until we couldn't see the bucks and they couldn't see us. Then we were lucky enough to have a grass strip through the corn field that led us to the other side. When we were almost to the opening I stopped and told Nolan we had everything in our favor to this point. The wind was in our face and rustling the corn leaves and we should be able to get in on these bucks. We dropped once again to our bellys and crawled to the edge of the field. I scanned the beans for the deer and didn't see them. Then I caught a glimpse of something and it turned out to be an antler tip. The bucks had bedded down in a weed patch in the beans. Then a couple does walked out of the beans and straight towards us. At 25 yards they got a bit jittery when they got a look at us and didn't like what they saw. They ran back to the beans on high alert which of course made both bucks stand up. I told Nolan to take the one on the left when he opened up for a clean shot. A few moments later the buck took a few steps and Nolan topped him over where he stood from 120 yards. After Nolan came to from me tackling him
we took some field photos and video and gathered the deer up to show mom and dad. A quick run of the tape puts the buck at 153". It was an awesome hunt
