my friend bought a new rifle last week and i have never seen one like that before. they call it a 17 hmr, i think it's hmr. but it is a 17. Very fast. anyone else have one. neat gun.
i shot a yote, at about 125 yards with mine and he just turned and bit his shoulder, like he got hit by a fly. luckily he ran about 400 yards across a field and died. stick to my 243 wsm with 65 grain nosler partitions. that is the ticket mancrikey little buggers hit the deck when you drill them with that.
I am with Liv4rut, The only rifle I own is a 30-06. It usually puts a pretty good whole is a coyote. I saw the 17HMR conversions for a ruger 10-22 and thought that would be fun to have for coyotes. I am rethinking that decision now!
Agree with Moose270, my .17 is all over the place. Bought a Savage, mounted a 4.5/14 Simons with steele mounts. Best group it will shoot with either Rem, Hornaday or CCI ammo is about 4" at 100 yds. Zeroed for 100 yds, it drops 9" at 200. It's a plinker and that's about it.
Me and a buddy were hunting 2nd shotgun season and I flushed out a big coyote near Elkader. He was wounded in his right front leg. My buddy told me that I couldn't shoot him with my deer slug because the law says that during shootgun deer seasons that you can't shoot them. I knew that we couldn't use rifles during shootgun deer seasons. This didn't seem right but, I let the poor critter hobble off and die. Is this the rule in Iowa? Can you shoot coyote and fox with Landowners permission or do you still have to have a harvesting permit. I know that many landowners have told us if we see them to shoot them and leave them to rought.
What to do? I figure that I would only shoot one in self defence. Is a 7mm a good all around varmit gun. and what scope would you use? off to lunch.
I would shoot a coyote anytime of the year no matter what season it was, alot of coyotes usually get shot during deer season, they have a continuous open season, so i dont see why you couldnt of shot it, you didnt have a rifle lol but i spose to be good friends you got to respect his decision too
ps, i think a 7mm is a good for anything lol, probably put a baseball size hole through a yote.

There is nothing against the law if you shoot coyotes with a slug during the shotgun deer seasons.
Your friend might somehow be confusing the law that states you can't have in your possession a rifle during the shotgun deer season if you're a licensed deer hunter. Or, there is the law that you can't use a CB (mobile transmitter) to hunt coyotes during the shotgun deer seasons.
i gave it to my brother in law, didnt get a dime for it. he is a dirt bag he always says he is gonna give me money for things and never does. i actually gave him a 96 honda foreman 400 4 wheel drive and he said he was gonna pay me with his tax returns. that was two almost three years ago. what a loser he is, dirtbag.
